The view from my "office"

@Flashback, I note you had some nice photos from San Marino from a few years ago. Where did you stay and do you recommend it? If not, any other recommendations? I’m guessing you can’t really go wrong staying up in the main hill area.

@TheRealTMA, my family and I will also be staying in Bologna and I note from another thread that you had some photos from there so same sort of question if you don’t mind: where would you recommend staying in Bologna?

I’m making accom bookings now for a trip in late April / early May.
Bologna was some years ago. We've stayed in

Albergo in centro a Bologna - Hotel San Donato 4 stelle and Art Hotel Orologio in Bologna | Official Website

Both good hotels and excellent locations in centro. San Donato has a nice terrace for breakfast and evening drinks.

Lots of excellent places to eat in Bologna. One of our favourite restaurants in Bologna used to be

but there are tons of others. Read reviews.

Da Cesari used to have a set price menu and they just fed you what was good!

Don't forget to visit the Basilica and see the Meridonale (SunDial) from 1695).

Already in the eleventh century the sundial was used to determine the precise date of the Spring Equinox, in view of a later calendar reform. This latter would be possible only in 1582, with Pope Gregory XIII.

The atmosphere of Bologna is great. Have a spritz etc in the cafe opposite the Basilica at sunset in Piazza Magiore, markets are fabulous, and the streets lined with salumerie (delicatessens), the old medical school with the Anatomical Theatre of the Archiginnasio from 1595 (teaching room for anatomy dissections), and many great other places to visit.

For reference, Bologna is nicknamed by locals as 'la dotta, la grassa, la rossa' (the learned, the fat, the red).

A rather lovely day at Port Broughton. Toasty in fact.

I’d be doing this too but not quite well enough yet.

One of the huge PB fishing boats. They supply KGW, blue swimmer crabs, flounder, squid and flathead to NSW and Vic as their main market and Adelaide’s main fishmongers. And owned by very nice down to earth people. The guy had me in stitches telling me the story of one of his many inspections that went horribly wrong. Getting the boat off the trailer at the marina they ‘dropped’ the two outboards off the trailer. $80,000 for repairs. I laughed. (Not short of cash 😉) He asked why! Because it showed than even the experts get boats wrong sometimes.

Lake Kawana. This part is the International rowing course. Several countries used it to train for the last Olympics.
The office is in an industrial park but looks pretty good from the water. Over the road though is slightly different.
