I have arrive at my overnight “office”, the Mandarin Oriental Santiago, Chile. One night, but back again in three weeks before flying home.







Only one problem: there are scales in the powder room!

A day trip to Halle (Saale). It is about 25 minutes from Leipzig on the S Bahn express. Some very nice buildings around the marketplace. Plus the compulsory Christmas Market.

Away from the centre the town gets 'gritty'. We took a train at random and it went to the 'wrong side of the tracks' and it was urban blight there with abandoned and burnt out old manufactories. The train there was pretty empty but the train back was filled to over-capacity and left people behind at stops. I assume they were fleeing the place.

View of walking around Las Condes, Santiago. Knowing the cost of apartments in this area, I’m not sure I’d appreciate having this plastered over the front. Yes, it would be see-through and I guess it would shelter you from the afternoon sun, but still ...

From Erfurt comes the Krämerbrücke whose stone construction to replace an earlier wooden structure was done in 1325. It is the longest bridge with continuous housing in Europe.




And my wife sitting with The Sandman a favourite of East German children and after 1989 with all German children. Erfurt is a centre for production of children's TV.

Oh. My. God. Forget the bloody cruise, the flight down from Santiago to Puerto Williams down the Andes for almost 4 hours was stunning!
