The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

View towards the reserve side of our house, yesterday evening, BOM says another storm on it's way with heavy rain and hail.

The footpath and just beyond turn into a river during storms, me on the roof cleaning hail from the gutter and a general shot towards the kitchen window, with some of the hail.

Funny, we had absolutely no hail and not much rain in Barton, but it looked like those up at Parliament House for the Australian of the Year ceremony last night got a lot wetter than us and we're only spitting distance! Peculiar weather.
A friend in the Tuggeranong valley sent me some pics of the hail as well - looked like snow!

There were still patches of hail around this morning, some big trees down at Gowrie oval, the cafe at the Gowrie shops lost it's outdoor pergola. However it wasn't as bad as the storm we had on New Years eve in about 2004/2005.
Most of our neighbours have had water coming in through downlights and heater/cooler vents etc. Insurance companies will be busy tomorrow!

In the vineyards at Pemberton again Thur-Fri this week. Vineyards in full foliage on 30 deg-plus days are not as idyllic as the advertising portrays, let me assure you! Relative humidity must be approach 100%. I think I know why people that work in vineyards very often love a beer ;).

The cab sav is ripening fast.

As is the chardonnay.

Some recent unseasonal and heavy rain in SW WA has really made the Botrytis crank - good for our fungicide trial work ;).

What you get with no treatment (and it's still relatively early):

Putting the small-plot spray rig away.

But this is the real-deal. Have to air-blast the material into the canopy.

IMG_3455.jpg

Nice stand of regenerated Karri forest next to one of the vineyards. Annual bark-shedding almost done; trunks a lovely salmon-pink colour.

One of the vignerons figures he doesn't have enough to do , so he also grows potatoes. Harvest time.

Never let it be said that JohnM doesn't help educate peeps on these boards .

Sunday at work. L-R: A-League & W-League wrap, T20 on the computer for editing, T20 on the TV for watching, Australian Open just to keep an eye on it.

Beautiful evening for a walk. Hubby headed to Sydney tonight, so he drops me off at the end of the valley, 1 hour walk back home to the beat of the Black Eyed Peas. Life is good.
