Getting into Rahotep's Mastaba was interesting....... crawl on hands/knees thru the dirt tunnel heading below ground for about 30 meters, turn around so you can descend wooden ladder, limbo at bottom of ladder to crawl again thru tunnel and get thru 18" square cut out of the rocks, to then crawl along 2 wooden planks, before being able to stand up and walk across the last 2 planks, then down 2 steps. Reverse to get back out. LOVED IT.

Firstly apologies for the extra photos in this thread. Today was an amazing day being the only tourist inside the Red Pyramid at Dashur, the "Unfinished" Pyramid of Meidum, and Rahotep's Mastaba at Meidum.

You'll need a neck massage after that! I'd think it would be an strange feeling being in there, considering how long ago it was that people toiled over building them!

re: The view from my "office"

Now that would have to be one of the most unique pics on this thread! May I ask, what the heck are those cranes building? Hopefully not residences.
The old sarcophagus had to be reinforced whilst the new safe confinement was constructed. Also the chimney was replaced with a shorter one (apparently the chimney is still required during reactor 3 decommissioning). Apparently the new safe confinement will start moving to cover up reactor 4 sometime in November.

I was in Amsterdam when Chernobyl went belly up. I still recall the initial confusion as nuclear alarms were going off in many surrounding countries and from the patterns they were able to pinpoint Chernobyl as the culprit (USSR wasn't letting on at all). Initially however, it was quite concerning with the newspapers (no internet back then) warning not to eat fresh vegetables or drink fresh milk (didn't bother me a great deal as I was pretty much surviving on a diet of beer, beer and later ... beer), but I decided to cut short my Euro excursion and jump on a plane back to London and then onto Expo '86 in Vancouver. I've never managed to get back to Europe ... something I hope to rectify in coming years, and hopefully via SQ suites!

Coles Bay, looking towards Freycinet National Park (Wineglass Bay is just on the other side of the saddle on the right).

When we were there 3 years ago it was p****ng down and not conducive to a walk, and that was high summer. But from what we saw and have since seen a great part of the world. Loved Tassie, but I don't know if we will go back.

I saw this in Dallas and it looked back at me! It's 30 feet tall!

They almost got it right ... one more eyeball and it'd be Pink Floyds "Pulse" DVD cover! (one of my all time favourites)

(Of course they may have to bulldoze the buildings in the background)

Paid to go inside...... best $30.00 I have EVER spent.

I felt so claustrophobic inside and it stank and it was really hot - the woman in front fainted and watching them drag her out put me off going right to the centre - magnificent city and country though - enduring memories of sipping gin and tonics (several) as the sun set when we were sailing down the Nile
