Some friends are doing a biking tour of NZ at the moment; not too far from you I think. I saw on Facebook it's been really nice weather but they said it was due to change - looks like it has!

Lovely sitting on the verandah sipping a local merlot,nibbling on some local cheeses and venison salami.Watching the rabbits hop between the vines and listen to the shotgun blasts.Ah the serenity.

No - Lake Brearley (now there's a famous WA aviator: Norman Brearley - Wikipedia). It's an artificial lake created from the old claypits for the brickworks adjacent to the old Maylands Aerodrome site (also historically significant in Australian aviation: Maylands Airport - Wikipedia). Several streets around there are named after aircraft (eg. Dakota, Kittyhawk, Halifax) and (Bert) Hinkler - another famous aviator (Bert Hinkler - Wikipedia).

The Elephant Hill vineyard restaurant just outside Huamoana,NZ.If you are in the southern Hawkes Bay region this place is a definite recommendation

Elephant Hill is excellent. Craggy Range on Waimarama Rd, just out of Havelock North and in the shadow of Te Mata Peak is outstanding too.

But geo correction..it is firmly in Hawkes Bay proper. Southern Hawkes Bay is Dannevirke, Norsewood etc and a good few hours drive south from Haumoana!
