The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

I think you're about to star on an episode of "My Cat From Hell"

Both the owner and I decided that the blood was best left "in vivo" rather than "in vitro" :). This Burmese is definitely in our top 5 of our "cats from hell" (domestic cats that is, we have to deal with ferals on a fortnightly basis).

re: The view from my "office"

So is it real? Or are you a hobbit? Or both :)

It's real with the exception of the oak tree above Bag End (top centre of picture) and the interiors (which don't exist). It helps if you are 4 feet short or shorter to get through the one "hole" that's open. Its part of a working farm that was "discovered" by Peter Jackson's scouts. Apparently the owner had only purchased the property a couple of years before Peter Jackson approached them. That's what you call good timing.

And worth a visit if you're in the area.

re: The view from my "office"

This post might be more aptly named ‘My day at the ‘office’ ’ but I won’t confuse things by starting another similar thread.

Woke early today and thought a spin in the country would be nice after the recent wet weather that cleared overnight. Hit the road at 7 am, 800 km later hit home at 7 pm. Nice day out and got to blow a few cobwebs out of the turbo in the process.

Here’s the route: N along the coast (Indian Ocean Drive – recommended), through quite a few National Parks and reserves in the famed WA flora-rich heathlands, before swinging inland through the W of the wheatbelt and home. A month or two early for the peak of the wildflowers, but there was still plenty of early stuff on offer.

1.JPG

Unusual lighthouse of rather nice brickwork at Guilderton (named after some Dutch guilders discovered from a famous Dutch shipwreck, the ‘Gilt Dragon’), mouth of the Moore River at Guilderton, panorama over the coastal heath, a bit of the Indian Ocean Drive.

2.JPG

Coastal heath, (moving) sand dunes, a legacy ‘shack’ settlement called Grey on what until a few years ago was a very isolated section of the coast (the Indian Ocean Drive is fairly recent). These settlements are controversial and have been grandfathered for existing squatters.

3.JPG

The Pinnacles, which is a well-visited attraction in the region.

4.jpg

Some wildflowers. Banksia, scarlet feather flower (Verticordia grandis) is just stunning, smokebush, egg and bacon plant (Eutaxia sp.), native woody pear.

5.JPG

Coast and road, pointing S on the start of the run home. Had to get some agriculture in! Early-sown ‘Roundup-Ready’ (aka ‘genetically modified’) canola crop looking very good, flowering canola adds real colour to the landscape, nice sunset about 1.5 h out from home.

I hope everyone else also had a lovely day in their office!

re: The view from my "office"

awesome way to spend a day!

but I do hope you will plant a tree tomorrow morning to make up for your carbon footprint?

It was - and I will! Meanwhile, Uppy needs to plant a large forest to make up for her throbbing V8's C footprint - on the 9 km run to her office ;):p.

re: The view from my "office"

My office today is the SCL main lounge - can claim it as my "office" as I honestly contemplated sending some work emails.

re: The view from my "office"

ORD is my favourite US airport for plane watching from the AA lounge.

Plane watching from the LAN lounge in Santiago is amazing. The lounge overlooks several gates, but also has the principle taxiway intersection where everything passes, and a superb view of the main runway where you can see takeoffs and landings. With most takeoffs the rotate point is almost immediately in front of you. This morning I have seen:

LAN: 787, A320, 767, 767F
Aeromexico: 787
Air Canada: 767
Delta: 767
American: 777, 767
Aerolineas Argentinas: some small coughbox
Sky: A320
Chilean Airforce: Hercules
Iberia: A340
Avianca: A330
KLM: 747F
TAM: 777

And finally, my ride: Qantas: 747 :)

Then you obviously weren't using the 'dining room' part of the office :) .

Not sure if this will work.......

That's cool!

What's the name of the little guy in the corner looking decidedly unimpressed with a drunk Eeyore (who, by the way, seems to be in need of some hairdressing :)) staring at him? Relation of Rebecca? :p

I assume we will be getting another instalment of the 'Adventures of Rebecca and QF' on the homeward journey soon? ;)
