Hi prozac and thanks for the welcome!

I'm presently based in Australia (thanks to Covid, we got "stuck" here for a lot longer then planned!) but now the borders are open again just commuting between homes.. with a fair amount of work related travel within Asia and North America thrown in.

Hoping to learn more on the Qantas FF board being that's now my choice of carriers and contribute where I can elsewhere after having found the AFF site!

Daughter got caught in Eu. Was in US late last year, Brazil at Christmas for 2 months, back to Eu and now in BA. Back to Brazil in May. Covid has actually been a boon for her after the initial shock. She has re-invented herself.

@Flashback - the weather looks a tad chilly - spring hasn't sprung ?? Whats the temp ??
It's varied a bit! Thursday and Friday was shorts and t-shirt weather (circa 15-20 degrees max), Saturday and Sunday you definitely needed a jacket, 5-15 degrees max. Today was a touch over 15, but lovely and sunny so a light jacket was too warm and kept going on / off / on / off.

A hike in the area surrounding Partnach Gorge was yesterday's first office - if you go off the beaten track it's lots of uphill but worth it for the views. Parking is next to the Olympic ski jump stadium, was built for the 1936 Olympics IIRC.

Just returned from Easter on the West Coast of Tas ... will do a TR - it was magnificent. the last 2 days at Corinna:

Corinna - no phone, no internet, no TV, just cabins and the surrounding serene wilderness on the Pieman river:

That is, until the clowns came along.

/rant

Absolute bogan 4WDers. This mob of 4 came roaring into the village, parked and 2 kept engines going while they went up to the shop and bought a few beers. Consumed with loud conversation, incl the obligatory obscenaties (ignoring the kids around). I hastened their departure on the punt over the Pieman River (their only way to continue) by sidling down and suggesting that another 4WD club was coming down the road, and if they didn't get across now, they may not make it, as the punt has a strict 5pm stopping time and takes only 2 vehicles at a time (that last 2 bits are true :) ).

The punt across the Pieman River:

IMG_4012.JPG

Good riddance. In fact, the day before we got a convoy of 13 4WD making their presence felt for about an hour before they cleared over the punt. The 4WDers have a bad reputation on the W and NW coast of Tas, illegally accessing verboten areas and generally acting like DHs. I used to have some sympathy with them, as I think access is too much restricted to the fit and active, but now- where's the petition?

/rant :)

Sounds similar to the behaviour of some on the beaches around here

Oh crumbs - were there any Qld licence plates?? A colleague is on LSL around Tas somewhere ...

‘twas a lovely evening and after a run around the harbour foreshore, I figured I should not let free public transport go to waste.

So next it was a sight seeing harbour cruise.

Catering and seating matched the price paid, but the views were terrific.

I took my 5 year old grandson to the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bullcreek about 5 minutes from my home in Perth. He had fun and so did I. Just some of the aircraft on display - both military and civilian types but the Lancaster is the biggest one.

The last time I saw this Lancaster it was mouldering away as an ornament at Perth Airport.

The nose of a Mk22 Spitfire, Vampire trainer, a Macchi Jet Trainer - I think that @jb747 had some experience with this type. And a Canberra bomber - bigger than I realised.

As an added extra there was a fine red sunset tonight. Unfortunately this was due to a fire in the hills.

My office this week will be familiar to many.

Transport NSW has decided public transport is free until 25 April.

So I took advantage of a bus ride to a part of town I don’t usually visit when I’m here.
Nice view of White Bay Terminal from Pyrmont 16 ... oh that's right, you young things probably call it Jones Bay or some such now it's not a working harbour. ;)

I used to play the Organ there. We used to have concerts there.

I'm heading to WA in two weeks (for the first time) and wouldn't mind visiting this place, as I have two free days in Perth before heading south.
Sans hire vehicle, what's the best way to get there? I'm staying at Crown Towers.

I am sure Uber would be reasonable during the day. However as JohnM has pointed out public transport is also a very good option. It is about 500 metres from the Bullcreek Train Station. As per their website you can catch buses that stop directly outside the museum but if you are reasonably mobile the train'/walk is probably quicker.

Yep, thanks just checked the map and Uber looks a good option.

Rounding out my week away I decided more exercise was required to counter the buffet breakfast.

First stop a twilight visit to SYD Botanic garden.m where I tried to get artistic in the succulent garden.

From there it was on to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.

Next I planned to walk around to the Opera House before heading back to the hotel.

But I found my path blocked.

Apparently the opera crowed aren’t satisfied with one harbour front venue.

They have erected another:
