The view from my "office"

Last and final office view on the onward trip to Chennai.

18C on A320, no one next to me. A short 50 minute hop from CMB to MAA. Despite a 20 minute delay in departure, arrived 2 mins early into MAA.

Quick note re : OWA-E lounge access when flying UL. it’s a great idea to have you QFF card handy (or in your phone). Time and again, the staff and the computer system at CMB Serendib lounge have no clue re OWA lounge access rules. I was denied entry because my inbound was from SIN and the onward to MAA is only a one hour flight, so seems I don’t qualify for lounge access. The lounge attendant kept asking me for a “lounge invitation” to be let in. I explained the OWA lounge access rules, told her that I’m here every 3 months and I had to explain the same rules each time. I did this all with a smiling face and even told them about the time when they had a leaky tile in their ceiling and we both laughed.

I then whipped out my WP card on the QF app and she recognised the OW logo on it. She then called someone who confirmed that I can be let in regardless of where I have arrived from and where I’m headed to. She then tried to print an invitation for me, which I don’t think was needed, but may be necessary for documentation purposes (as in today we had so many people in the lounge). The agent was pleasant, did not reject my points outright and I was pleasant as well.

All in all good experience, needed a bit more discussion than necessary, but all good.

Took an afternoon stroll around Woolacombe in freezing weather. But I found out that mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the freezing Atlantic. As I got close to Woolacombe Sands beach I saw the tail end of a rubber ducky rescue. So the mad dogs and other views of Woolacombe.

My office for lunch today: Waiting to board SQ479 in JNB. I’m in the Virgin Clubhouse, which is SQ’s designated lounge here. Nice space.

Sadly no access flying whY on SQ as VA WP (although I believe I would have access through status if flying VS Y, so go figure…), so I paid for access via https://www.plazapremiumlounge.com

A very reasonable ZAR202 for 1 hour’s access (around A$17.50). There was a 3hr package for about double that, but an hour is all I need. My employer is picking up the tab but even if they weren’t that seemed like good value to me: there’s a full a la carte menu here with table service.

Had the butternut soup with biltong (very tasty)

The chicken burger (just ok).

And the truffles with espresso.

Plus a beer and a glass of red.

I know I’m in Africa but the drinks alone back in Melbourne would be more than the cost for an hour in this lounge. Thumbs up from me.

Hard to see but one of the chicks above had their leg broken and is now deformed. Felt sorry for it.

And here SanPaTong markets the toilets have a turnstile and you need to pay 3 baht to enter. Have never seen this before.
