Back into Germany after an interesting train trip from Prague - at one stage all passengers on board had to decamp from the original train and cross the platform to climb onto another train.
Anyway -
Regensburg and its 12th Century stone bridge across the Donau (Danube) River.
The smoking chimney belongs to the Regensburg Sausage Kitchen - "notable as perhaps the oldest continuously open public restaurant in the world." The present building dates from the 17th Century but there was a previous building of the same dimensions on the site from the 12th Century. Bratwurst in a bun with mustard and sauerkraut was Euro 3.50 and good. Construction of the Cathedral in the background only began in 1275.
Today we took a boat trip about 45 minutes downriver from Regensburg to Valhalla. Built by King Leopold 1 of Bavaria and opened in 1842 to honour "important personalities of the "German tongue". There are marble busts of the various persons considered suitable. The youngest would be that of Sophie Scholl who was 21 when she was executed in 1943 for distributing anti-war pamphlets.
Makes me feel better with all those exciting overseas photos.
Today is not so nice for the balloons - grey and low cloud. Only one out the window this morning.
