Only 1 reason a scrub turkey male is visiting this time of year. He wants to build a nest. In the second picture is the corner of one of my green houses. he jumped onto the roof and was trying to get a piece of the fibre. So I went as close as I could which didn't phase him. Then reinforcements arrived - 2 noisy miners. That got him on to the fence. One miner flew off and came back with at least a dozen more so he made his escape.

I decided I would not continue a battle with the Brush Turkey(s) this year and have let them do what ever they want. They have ripped up and eaten all the lovely frisias scattered throughout the lawn leaving sizable craters in places but I remain calm.

The incredible come back Kings of Australian fauna! 🤷‍♂️

One defence mechanism. The recipe for roast scrub turkey is place in moderate oven with a stone. When the stone is tender, discard turkey and serve the stone….

Used to be a sign on an old double decker bus parted outside the original Wello hotel in Canberra, a must stop place after consuming too much ale at the Wello, or the Kingo pubs.
Although the bird mentioned, if I remember correctly was a Galah.

Ah the memories….

Hotel Reina Cristina, Algeciras. It looks lovely, but is well beyond its glory days. I have a single bed! Reception requires a 10€ deposit for a pool towel. There is a sign on the in-room safe that the hotel wants you to be safe and secure, so you can rent the safe!! We have the whole day tomorrow in Gibraltar, so Ihave one more night here.

I had to ask MrsK (a Canberra native) where the Wello was - now where Rydges stands. Although she didn't done at that bus, only the one up at Haigh Park.

It used to park across the road, there was a very shabby cricket and Aussie rules oval, played a few games of each there.
The Wello was a lovely old building, across the road is a statue of Robbie Burns, seemingly deep in thought. We used to say he was deciding to go the pub, or the church up the road.
The old oval is now an office block.
