This doesn't surprise me - Qantas kick off The Veronicas

My experience and observation is that crew almost always stow their carry on in the overhead lockers. Qantas cabin crew will often have a wheelie bag and a decent size second bag that I assume to be a make up kit. at least on 737s, which is the workhorse of the Qantas domestic fleet.

To claim each crew member lifts 50 bags every flight is a gross exaggeration.

BTW it hasn't been OHS for at least 6 years.

Pilots carry-on into the coughpit. FAs to the closet used for jackets and often the first overheads (obviously already there by the time we board, but I have seen them access these).

Although I am yet to sit right up the back, I'm told that FAs also use the overheads nearest the back as well.

Apart from WA correct?

It's national legislation... In some ways WA isn't part of Australia... lol

But WA are still in the process of moving over to the legislation. The OSH act of 1984 still applies in WA

Vic - with a name like that you should be well aware that the national legislation doesn't apply in Vic!:)

Is there a right to privacy in a public place? Can you demand that someone stop filming you and the law is on your side? (Setting aside what is subsequently done with said film).

If you are in a public space or can be seen from a public space basically no.

On the topic of photos in the coughpit. This is secret so don’t show anyone.

Here is yours truly last month in a QF 380. It does amaze me how some staff and private security are worse, become obsessed with things on the grounds of security.

I love how people are still blaming crew. Where is the personal responsibility of taking care of your own bags? If it's too heavy to lift or you can't get it in the locker, then check it in. It's not like most of these people will actually need their carry on bag during their short flight anyway.
Because many crew members are lazy and arrogant (sorry Qantas, it is true).
And.... also.... have you noticed how high some of the overhead bins are? On a 737 not an issue, but on a A330, the central overhead bins are quite high - i am 6' and I need to stand on tip-toes to see into the back of them when checking for loose items.... I am constantly helping people put their bags up - i don't complain - in fact, I usually offer with a smile...

A quick anecdote.... about this time last year I was on QF 3 in J and was lucky to be on the last remaining 747 that had the old F config in the nose (I believe it is gone now?). Anyway, if anyone recalls, the overhead bins in that config were very high - and very small. Anyway, I remember quite clearly helping about 5 female pax put their bags up. All smiles. No trouble at all. No crew members in sight.... my shoulders still work :-)

They won't all be like that, but I know a woman who worked long distance QFi for about a year, and her comment to me was an aside as to how some of these staff used the excuse 'I'm in the union' to avoid assisting passengers at times like you describe.

On other airlines I generally observe cabin crew assisting with placing bags overhead. I prefer it under the seat in front.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were not an ageist thing. A couple of young healthy looking people shouldn't need help whereas an older grey haired person may be assisted.

More of a cupboard in Australia, I would think,
Congrats on never having been up the back.

The challenge being, assuming you’re a normal sized male, now develop a policy that covers the safety and wellbeing of all staff, of all age, sizes and genders, of varying physical capacity, and then potentially place them in a position to perform the same lifting task multipel times per flight, some of whom are working domestic sectors so 3,4,5 flights per day.

So sure, 5x lift as a one off for you, no issue.

A policy to cover all eventualities (which will flow through to work cover premiums, the organisation’s and manager’s responsibility to follow legislation around safe working environments etc) and it’s not so simple.

I’m with QF here- you carry it on board, you stow it.

If a kindly passenger offers to help, great. Just don’t expect the staff to lift it for you (as they’d potentially be exposed to having to do so many it becomes unsafe for them).

It's still secret. Nothing is turned on.

They were changing some batteries when I got on, And of course we weren’t going anywhere with me at the controls.

I’d rather control a Coopers Sparkling in the BAM.

I think there is some confusion as to exactly what a QF FA is supposed to do.... members on this forum certainly cannot agree, and I think that as many many many many members have pointed out, QF's often inconsistent and clunky service indicates that the FAs themselves seem to be at a loss... fair?

Now I am going to be very brave and tell you what I think their job is. You can feel free to disagree, of course....

1) Be friendly and polite
2) Get me stuff when I ask for it, and quickly, without attitude
3) Put my bag up if I ask - get it down if I ask - sure if it is heavier than "code", maybe we can discuss
4) Don't give your mates preferential treatment
5) Try to remember names of people in J without constantly referring to the printed manifest (and not even discreetly)
6) Use your brains and don't give me a gluten-free special meal that was obviously ordered for another person as the name on the food said "Mrs Smith"
7) Don't be a sulky unpleasant piece of work
8) Smile

Of course.... I think many FA's think their job is this:

1) Come to work, get paid, go home

One would hope this is Friday morning sarcasm given I would be highly surprised even if one of your list of 1 to 8 would be on their duty statement.

One of your most ridiculous posts.

Not a surprising list given your track record, but I do note that safety awareness did enter into my job description just a tad back in the day.

As, unfortunately, did dealing with the occasional entitled clown hoping for indentured servitude with a smile.

Though, luckily for this forum, Qantas exists, otherwise it would be half empty as no one would have to report about being downgraded with no compensation, being refused entry to the lounge and the list goes on. Not surprisingly it only ever seem to occur with Qantas.
Wow I bet you got smacked around the head a bit for this little truth bomb!
