This is dinner on QF CNS - SYD

And like juddles said "over the last year QF made about $8 profit per pax"

Which is an interesting metric, but only meaningful if we know the spectrum of what other airlines earn per pax. They may be earning 4 x as much as average! :) (Plus profit is affected by accounting ... depreciation, write-offs etc)

You’ve had a crack at this have you Johnny?

That is clearly the best line I have ever seen written on AFF!
Haven't been offered a job yet. But unless I have a crack at running an airline no one knows whether I'd succeed or not.

And such a lovely snack on the TSV-BNE 1650 service yesterday.Chick pea pieces and sweet potato dip.
Fortunately I knew we were going out to dinner soon after I landed(along with the plane:D) in BNE.
The lounge in townsville certainly is better than the last time i used it-2 hot dishes plus the usual salad offerings.but again didn't partake.

Why? Is there a noticeable difference between what Qantas charges and what Virgin charges? I don't care what business model they are using behind the scenes. As a passenger do you see any difference? Don't include status benefits.

This
It's not that difficult to run an airline.

Are you kidding me . . This is why they are making billion dollar profits .. have a go at this cough for a 2-3 hour flight including $6 drinks ie no Citifyer freebies

What time did you depart?
Looks more like lunch or supper service.

I’m always getting proper dinner (hot meal or salad selection) on my QF routes plus complementary alcohol during weekdays.

16:55 departure

QF website says hot meals ,salad and booze is on selected routes. The crew yesterday told me that this means CitiFlyer flights , not leisure flights, so meals and booze are just for the suits

I don’t normally weigh into the Y catering debates but as a comparison I’ve just stepped off GA404 CGK-DPS and got a cooked meal in Y, choice of fish or chicken with noodles, and served with metal cutlery on a tray. This is for a flight time equivalent to ADL-SYD. Myself and Mrs 340 were even given exit row seating despite having no Skyteam status.

I think that falls into refreshment territory and thus the snack box type food instead of the Meal boxes that are more substantial than what you had

Flight details clearly say dinner.

Looks like no free booze in Y ex-CNS, unless I’m missing something.

It must have been 'dinner' as the Lindt chocolate is not served otherwise. (It is the dessert course ...)

Also, from Qantas.com:

Unfortunately it doesn’t always flow through, our flight said lunch, was a noon flight and we got a breakfast refreshment.

Can happen but QF advertising dinner service which is completely different than what the OP received, not good enough. I would write a feedback to QF.

It’s exactly the same, ours was advertised as a lunch service and we got half a breakfast wrap that was smaller than what the op got. Also on a CNS flight funnily enough.

I suspect it was "Dinner" as it ran to two courses ...

Note that all QF standard economy domestic 'meals' are served in a box.

Must let QF know. If it happens once or twice no big deal but if on regular basis this is misleading advertisement.

Yes, but my Dinner on Thursdays DRW-MEL was the proper meal box, not the refreshment type box the OP got.

As pointed out by @serfty and @boomy dinner should have been served. I do think that catering seems to make up their own rules as to what flights get what however.

John K - you must be joking. Billion dollar infrastructure, massive maintenance/safety requirements, constantly changing regulations, at the mercy of fuel prices, weather, market forces, LCCs etc. Sure - should be a piece of cake.
Reminds me of the (half) joke:
Want to make a small fortune in aviation?..................Start with a large fortune ;)

Here is another route, same departure time and similar distance (30m shorter). Dinner is advertised and at least on the occasions I took this flight there was proper dinner served with hot meal or salad choice.

What time was your flight? Doesn't look like dinner service to me, more like afternoon snack? Look at the +ve, at least it's 2 hot buns rather than the 2 sweet balls that they provide for morning snack. :D
