re: Tier Matching at DJ

Velocity Rewards referred to an allocation being exhausted, so preumsably they had a limit to how many memberships they could give out. They might not have anticipated the demand, and I’m sure many more applied that didn’t post here, so there might be a lot more Velocity Golds now than it appears.

Now to see if the free status pays off for them I expect, and if it does, more status matching will happen in the future. Until then, I’ll guest you in John ;)

I think we have to keep in mind is that most forums have a substantial number of lurkers so we could possibly point at them.

Not that I'm interested myself whatsoever but they could always limit it to WP's - we'd presume there'd be a lot less of them floating around out there with nothing better to do on a Friday night / Saturday morning. ;)

re: Tier Matching at DJ

My status match went through last night. Have 4 flight next week on qantas but will out DJ week after see how we go!

Thanks to velocity rewards for their speedy service!

re: Tier Matching at DJ

jjsyd,

Welcome to AFF and congratulations on your Gold status.

I'm not sure why people cannot be happy with how this has panned out. This was only ever offered as a bonus and all the hints were there that it would be a limited time offer and everyone who qualified had the opportunity.

It was DJs offer and it was entirely their decision when to start and stop the offer.

yeah looks like i got in JUST in time!

re: Tier Matching at DJ

I think it should also be noted that the status match offer was unpublicized as such, it was only because I thought to ring and ask that this thread came into being, and the information was published for the benefit of the community here.

Hopefully those that took it up with good intentions will see those intentions come to fruition and requalify as Gold in the near future, with the news that there maybe a clubhouse soon for SYD according to the Australian as just one of the enhancements coming I look forward to more competition for my $$$$. The more successful this offer is to Velocity the more likely they are to do it again!

Yes I blame all the lurkers. :p They skim certain threads for useful information and provide nothing in return to the community. ;)

Has anyone received their new Velocity card yet? I am planning on booking a few flights with them for the near future.. If my card doesn't arrive by then will I have any trouble with the lounges?

Takes two to three weeks, and comes with nice embossed bag tags as Sam mentioned. Mine arrived a week ago and will get a work out in Dec.

Agreed. Especially can't have sympathy for those who knew about the offer and delayed, hoping to either get past their anniversary date or see if 'more' was offered.

So you are saying I should be extremely happy the offer has expired and I missed out. :-|

Don't stress John they will do it again. They'll have to, to try and crack the business market.

I'm more than happy to consider a match when DJ actually relaunch themselves and give hard tangible products etc to meet my travel requirements :). They haven't even started doing this yet. Hopefully not too much longer!!

Plus I think it's smart to stop now, it devalues Velocity even further handing these out for free plus I know a few 'real' DJ gold members who are a bit pissed off at how freely they are been given out. Has to be a balance.

What quota? Perhaps I am wrong but I would have thought taking potential business away from Qantas was the target and continuing to status match until the end of November would certainly have helped further to achieve that goal. Perhaps not.
...
Are DJ worried that their lounges are now going to be overcrowded?

So you are complaining because a whole bunch of people that you don't personally know got their cough into gear and obtained free lounge membership? Or is your real beef against Virgin who didn't wait until you could be bothered to apply before closing the extraordinarily generous offer?

I fly occasionally with Virgin Blue and sometimes buy my way into the Lounge. I am happy with that arrangement and didn't bother applying for the status match because I would never fly them enough to re-qualify, and thought it would be dishonest to infer I would be travelling Virgin a whole lot more. I would even go as far to say that any gains in revenue from extra flights would more than be cancelled out by my beer consumption and the loss of the casual Lounge payments I would otherwise make.

And as a final kicker I have my doubts about the motives of many of the people who took up this offer, and didn't want to be left with a feeling of guilt by association. [None of this applies to the registered members of this forum, of course.]

I never expected more to be offered, but consider:

1) I already get access to the lounge through Priority Pass,
2) I am really waiting to see what the new product, expecially trans-con is like before I really arc up the bookings
3) It may be a once off, per membership, so best to do it when there is an intention to fly with them.

Hopefully, some offer will come up in some form again.

I am definitely not stressing.

I am stressing though that I did not receive the QF double SC's promotion, more Amex promotions or Everyday Rewards promotions.

JohnK there is definitely tried and tested method to ensure you get Amex promotions... A few members use it here but won't post publicly because of the dreaded 'Lurker effect' :)

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Got my match (requested last week). A huge thanks to Velocity Rewards for the prompt email and help. Booked to Tassie on Monday.:p

+1
I didn't want to jump the gun, use a status match and really not have the intention of going for DJ Gold, which to me would be a wasted opportunity.

If DJ do get it together;
- alliance wise
- lounge wise
- network wise
And offer a status match, l could leave QF/Oneworld for good.

I have about 4 years up my sleeve (if l stop flying tomorrow), WP -> SG -> 2years QP, and l might even get a comp on the way down, who knows?

I am definitely not stressing.

I am stressing though that I did not receive the QF double SC's promotion, more Amex promotions or Everyday Rewards promotions.

I get some promo's JohnK, and they aren't all they are cracked to be. Yes, the QF Double Promo was fantastic, but the EDR's, spend $90 to receive 100 points in Woolies, l struggle to spend $30 sometimes. I have missed out on a few EDR's promo's that other members seem to get. take the good with the bad?

Yes there are lurkers here and some of them are professionals. It has already been seen on this thread that what is read here will get onto other sites and publications.I was alerted to this fact by a friend-only a lurker here-when several travel articles appeared in a mainline publication that mirrored a TR of mine.Amazingly all the same tips, even photos from the same angles.Could have been coincidence but....I just took it as a compliment.
But just beware anything you post here certainly will get a wider audience than AFF-so if there is a chance that too wide a knowledge base will kill the goose-PMs are a better way to go.

Agreed 100% on that.

Virgin Blue Offering Velocity Upgrades To Some Qantas Frequent Flyers

By Angus Kidman on November 10, 2010 at 8:30 AM

If you’re a Gold or Platinum frequent flyer with Qantas, that’s a big reason to not use rival airlines. Virgin Blue has latched onto that thinking, offering free upgrades to its Velocity Gold program for those Qantas members.
Australian Business Traveller reports that a promotional deal from Virgin Blue offers a full year on Velocity Gold, its top tier program which includes free lounge access and additional luggage perks, for Qantas Gold and Platinum members. Signing up for lounge access with any airline can be an expensive undertaking, so this is a handy bonus if you want to be able to alternate between airlines depending on price and still get access to lounge facilities.
Hit the link for full details of the application process; the deal is running until the end of November. For other ways of getting cheaper lounge access, check our full Road Worrier guide.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Seems to be a lot of concern about the integrity of those who applied for and got the status match within the window.

I think that regardless of the motives of individuals, or what impact the match will have on their travel plans, this is one way in which DJ can rightly claim to have been listening to the complaints of their competitors' customers, and promoted their brand on the side of light.

It takes a lot in this information age to be deaf to your own customers, but QF and NZ have managed it adeptly of late.

If it makes DJ a better carrier, all to the good. If the competitors get the message, that too is good for the customer.
