Tigerair Australia Delays/Cancellations

Likely the change in department overseeing them led to their license being reviewed by someone who looked on TT less 'favourably' than others.

While JQ and QF have not been affected, is it possible that there is some 'lobbying' or 'corruption' involved in the sense of trying to protect Garuda Indonesia from more competition?

Although likely to get more pressure from Lion Air's upmarket subsidiary Batik Air based on some CAPA articlea

On Saturday 14 January, TT252, the mid afternoon 1530 hours from MEL to SYD has an expected 1910 hours departure - 220 minutes late.

On Sunday 15 January, TT461, the 1335 hours MEL - ADL has been cancelled while TT536, the early evening 1830 hours MEL to BNE is instead expected to depart about 40 minutes tardy.

TT517, the 1225 hours arrival in MEL ex BNE and TT464, the 1650 hours afternoon arrival in MEL ex ADL have also been given the boot.

Uncertainty for Tigerair Bali passengers must be costing TT plenty in reputational damage, passengers booking elsewhere and the costs to TT of refunds or accommdation and meals:

Later on 15 January, TT256, the 1645 hours MEL - SYD that took off at 1801 (A320 VH-XUH) should arrive at around 1907, 57 minutes late.

Monday 16 January sees TT703, the 1125 hours CFS - MEL that took off at 1213 likely to arrive at 1358 this afternoon, 33 minutes late. A320 VH-XUH has the task.

TT242 (1355 hours MEL - SYD) was the next sector commenced by VH-XUH, and was in the sky at 1500 hours sharp. Arrival should be at 1603, 43 minutes late and notably a further loss of 10 minutes since the previous arrival despite a relatively generous turnaround time.

As one might expect (subject to availability of suitable aircraft and flight/ cabin crews), VA is partially coming to the rescue of stranded TT passengers in Bali, but not it seems those in Adelaide, Melbourne or Perth booked to fly northbound:

No Cookies | Herald Sun

If the paywall defeats you, try to type in 'Virgin to fly stranded Bali Brisbane.'

While TT's flights must be a small percentage of nonstop Oz - Bali flights - JQ presumably has the most flights - it will be interesting to see if the cancellation of so many flights leads to any sort of noticeable drop in Indonesian (specifically Balinese) traveller arrivals from Australia between January and March 2017.

TT592, the 1815 hours early evening MEL - CNS should instead depart at 2035 on Monday 16 January. This is because TT259, the 1715 hours arrival from SYD is expected to be 155 minutes late into MEL. A320 VH-VNB is the aircraft.

'Rescue flight' TT6, the 1725 hours Monday 16 January DPS - MEL took off at 2018 with B738 VH-VOR. Arrival on Tuesday 17 should be at 0509, 84 minutes later than the timetabled very odd arrival at 0205.

TT371 on Wednesday 18 January (1340 hours BNE down to SYD, A320 VH-XUH) did not take off until an extremely late 1901 hours. Arrival is likely at 2124, 309 minutes behind schedule.

I remember back in the early 80s when the Indonesians sent back a plane of passengers going to Bali. Then Foreign Minister Bill Hayden came out with a well considered response, urging calm and understanding etc etc. But then in stark contrast, Prime Minister Bob Hawke came out furious with comments along the lines of that this was a disgrace and a totally unacceptable way to treat Australian citizens etc etc.

There weren't any such problems for the next three decades. Plainly, the Indonesian Government could have give Tiger Air an ultimatum that from a certain day a month in the future, it would no longer be allowed to fly into the country, and thus have avoided making Australian tourists the meat in the sandwich.

Maybe I missed it, but were there any Bob Hawke style strong comments about treating Australian citizens with contempt by our current Foreign Minister and Prime Minister? I haven't seen any so far.
Regards,
Renato

Renato - Except that on this occasion it is totally TT / VA's fault. Why should anyone shout at the Indonesians to try to resolve the issue any differently?

Melburnian1 - Re: the noNews Ltd piece linked above: I guess VA are 'making a goodwill gesture' of returning the 'stranded' holidaymakers, but won't go as far as wearing costs so that people can go on a holiday. (my assumption that that is TT's market - I don't imagine they'd have too many folks outbound to DPS for business reasons) Seems fair enough.
Also, has TT flown any of the 737's on their domestic network since this blew up? Are they even allowed to?

No they haven't. TT still haven't got AOC approval for the 737s, that was the cause of all of their cancellations over Xmas on the domestic network.

Because innocent third parties who happen to be Australian citizens were treated with contempt by an Indonesian Government Agency, who could have easily resolved the dispute just as forcefully without treating them with contempt - in the manner I described.

Why does the idea of people being treated like rubbish and costing them lots of money not trouble you - or the Australian Government? Especially when those affected people pour tens of millions of dollars into the local economy, and the Australian Government pours hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid into that country?

Renato

Tiger just announced that they have cancelled all flights to Bali permanently.

Pretty big news. I wonder if VA will take over?

Not a good look for Virgin.

Agreed. It must surely result in an overall loss of business for TT, given that many travellers will lack AFF member clifford's travelling experience and will hence associate TT with unreliability (or should I say 'cancellations' to distinguish from 'unpunctuality')

Friday 10 February 2017 sees TT226, the 1050 hours from MEL to SYD (A320 Vh-XUG) likely to arrive at 1306 hours, 51 minutes late.

Saturday 11 February 2017 sees TT664 (B738 VH-VUB, the 1205 hours CBR - MEL) having become airborne at 1321 with an expected 59 minute arrival time of 1414 hours.

Given the recent disastrous cancellation of Oz - Bali flights by TT, how long has this aircraft been operating Australian domestic sectors?

TT703 (A320 VH-VNH, the 1105 hours CFS - MEL that took off at 1300) should arrive at about 1443, 98 minutes behind schedule.
