Tokyo Haneda slot - 2025

[mod hat]
This thread has been spun off from the VA HND slot thread, as it is not VA specific.

Oh, and yes, sometimes Mods do sleep. ;)

Maybe I'm daft but I'm not sure how it can be VA specific or just HND as they pulled a Tokyo route, they can't re instate (or can they...back to 737 again this time from where if they have the legs?). I'm thinking the relevance of VA has now evaporated like most of their decent international sectors! Need to consider the options around the use of the slot and I think that is what the previous posts are trying to do?

If it were MEL-HND (hope so) would that mean QF moves from NRT? Or have both? Double chance for reward flights maybe? haha.. wishful thinking perhaps

I expect them to just move from NRT. Don't think QFi has the aircraft to add a new route right now.

There was a rule that airlines starting service to HND had to maintain service to NRT, which is why QF restarted MEL-NRT when they got the SYD-HND night slots.
Under protest from EU airlines, that rule was relaxed to allow service via codeshare, then removed. So there is now nothing requiring that QF add a NRT flight if they move one to HND.

This is really disappointing personally, the reliability got a lot better when QF went double daily on HND-SYD and I have taken the day flight a few times in both directions. But a better outcome for MEL/BNE pax.

The daytime flight will still exist just may not be to SYD.....

Makes sense, and we can blame the SYD curfew. The HND-SYD flight was so early I probably wouldn’t have done it again, redeye is probably preferable. And it got in so late to SYD it made connections difficult.

Looking at the BNE times they could tag to/from SYD if they wanted to. Not sure why they can’t do SYD-HND in the day and make BNE-HND redeye.

I also noticed the block time for QF26 is a bit faster than present... at the moment QF60 leaves at 2200 and arrives at 0855, but the new schedule has 2200 departure with a 0840 arrival. Could the 787 be coming back?

True. Not worth the extra stuffing around to go via BNE though, would be great if they tagged it to SYD though like @justinbrett said. 0650 is a difficult departure time ex-HND, I took the 0640 QF26 the other week and had to drive. $80 in parking later...

Do we think they'll add a SYD/NRT? I assume there's enough demand they wouldn't go from double -> single daily, unless a 787 makes up for it (can't imagine it does...)

I suspect yields have always been better with the overnight HND flights in both directions.

In precovid days it meant having a 747 sit at HND all day but with this schedule every plane is being turned around asap.

I don't think so. In fact I'm almost certain it won't be. This is a 3 aircraft rotation QF25 lands and turns back around to BNE as QF62. Then either QF61 or QF79 becomes QF26. If they ran a 787 it would get very messy.

I doubt it, makes sense for QF to consolidate at HND. Potentially JQ might look at a SYD-NRT flight, but i think there's enough capacity there already.

HND won't get a 787 with this timing. It lines up too well with 3 aircraft rotation on the 330s unless they pull multiple 787s. (Maybe in the future when more 787s are available).

NRT might be a possibility but a remote one. If I were to put myself in QFs shoes. I'd realistically not consider NRT and just have all operations at HND for now.

Seasonal CTS may be back in play though.
