Councils are so clever...

Perhaps they are cleverer than you realise - but not in a positive way.

With street trees that cause problems then the Council spends money year in and year out on that probem. Gum tree leaves are amongst the slowest (of any tree species) to decompose and cause issues with drain blockages as well as slipping issues when the wet weather hits (in our area for example).

Council tenders for the job to look after these issues and somebody gets the job/money. Amazing how relatives and friends seem to win many contracts from some councils.

Also our Council planted a large number of new gums about 4 years back. Oddly, most were planted under power lines. Council made ONE BIG mistake - they left the tree tags on.

These gums were recommended by the nursery to only be planted on farms and parks of more than 2 hectares in size as they grow to 40+ metres.

Remember our Council planted a good proportion under the powerlines.

A job for life to the contractors who get the contract for pruning them every year.

If there is an allegation of council corruption then it would be handled by the state ICAC body.

I do agree we need a federal ICAC but federal politicians will never permit themselves to be put under that scrutiny.

Week 7 update from the supervisor this morning.
Frame is finished. A couple of minor issues picked up by both their inspector and ours are being sorted today. Frame quailty has been very high which is pleasing; it was all built on site rather than prefabricated.
Gutters and fascias also going on today, as is the plumbing rough in.
Roof will start Monday.
Then they will start plastering etc at the same time they start bricking. He expects tiling and painting to be underway by late July.

This is the view from the back at the moment. Garage has been done since I looked on Sunday (you can see it on the left). Loving the size of our door out into the alfresco.
The dry winter is definitely working in our favour.

Looking great! Any carpentry crew that stick builds is usually a good reflection of quality. I agree much better than prefabricated.

I think it's just to stop the site getting muddy during the build. The soil gets really sticky when it's wet .

That was the idea; no point building something small then having to move again in a few years.

Having couch dilemmas; we were told we could have the couch we wanted modified to fit the space but turns out that isnt true. Trying to find something comfy and modular that is less than 3m long, but wont cost us a small fortune.

I got a couch custom built by a guy in Campbellfield relatively cheap - quality was mid range and he offers warranty on structure etc. Got a 3 seater + chase, a 2.5 seater, queen-size bed frame with fabric bed head and a storage box made up for around $1500 by memory. PM if you want his details.

Gutters are on as are temporary downpipes. Garage is also framed up now. Roofing on site for installation starting tomorrow.

Once the roof goes on you’ll have a good idea of the finished place. Though of course even more so with the walls.

This is the couch, but in a soft grey .


I dont have one of the dining table as we did a mix and match of a table from one range and chairs from another.
