Top Three Holiday Photos

I've just been watching the Scottish Railway series on SBS and one of the stations reminded me of Tynemouth

Had to have my fish and chips by the sea overlooking the Priory

And then when I came back into the Newcastle Railway station I saw this - I couldn't believe he was still alive let alone performing

Time to tick continent seven off. Out of the blue our 'The World' friend contacted us six weeks out from the start of the Ross Sea Expedition to see if we could take the time off and go. YES! Hobart-Ross Sea-Lyttleton.

This isn't going to be three, that's for sure. Maybe three per day ;)

Shortest night - sunset at just after midnight and then the sun rose at 1:30am

Our first sighting of penguins as we approached Cape Adare

so near and yet so far.... Too much broken up pack ice along the shoreline to visit the Borchgrevink and Scott Northern Party huts or take our first steps on the Antarctic continent. We got to withing about 50 metres before deciding it wasn't worth the risk to the zodiac, or us.

A magical late evening/very early morning off Cape Roget. If I had to choose any moment from any holiday this hour or so would be it

There is no way to judge scale anywhere here. These icebergs were huge. We got very close to them at one point. It was a no to the suggestion of going between them :)

We were told not to expect to see Emperor penguins as they should be long gone. Luckily they were wrong, multiple times

2004-Croatian Islands & Dubrovnik- found the Jadrolinija ferries were a great way to get around. Just walk on & get off at the island you wanted. In those days older ladies met the ferries & held up signs describing the virtues of their granny flats/rooms. Also there was the expectation to share the home made liquor of your hosts

Four months later we were off on the holiday we'd booked well before we were surprised with Antarctica. Bigal's holiday to Brasil

That darn J upgrade back from the US has ruined us. You all warned me. J to Santiago how we've done our holidays since - me revenue and bigal classic reward.

A truly crazy two weeks racing around Brasil. Sao Paulo-Cuiaba-Pantanal-Cuiaba-Brasilia-Sao Luis-Lencois-Sao Luis-Sao Paulo. Crazy stuff

A toucan, of course

Brasilia - from an architectural perspective everything we both hoped for and so much more. Two words - Oscar Niemeyer.

Maybe not what people were thinking of for a memorable structure his but his self-contained 'apartment towns' with open space under every building are now amongst the most sought after real estate in Brasilia. I LOVE CONCRETE!
