Top Three Holiday Photos

Plitvice Lakes Croatia 2004. At the time it proved to be a good tactic to stay overnight in the small village. We caught the bus & then walked to a freestanding little house. Seem to recall there was only one restaurant we could walk to. Next day we walked to the lakes & had covered most of the popular spots before the bus trips all arrived and the walkways became very busy

@TheRealTMA Did you enjoy the Peggy Guggenheim museum. I found it fascinating especially learning about her life?

Yes, was fabulous. Peggy Guggenheim was a very interesting character.

Have tons more photos but... I loved the early works by the Picasso, Pollock, Dali, Max Ernst etc.. Unmissable on a visit to the city. Lovely way to while away an afternoon. Max Ernst “self portrait“ above is hilarious sitting facing on to the canal.

ps: Just after New Year is a great time to visit. Cold but not too much (-1 ish) and few visitors.

I went between Christmas and New Year a few years ago. It wasn't that cold but still lots of people

Return to Japan in May 2018 in search of some late cherry blossom and the pink moss...

I was going to post a picture of cherry blossom, then maybe tulips, better were the pics of the bizarre and hilarious Shiroi Koibito Park but we had even more fun at the Sapporo Bier Garten at the Beer Museum :)

Sanja Matsuri or baseball? I think Matsuri

so much more to choose from but despite a wonderful couple of days back at Hakone, some beautiful gardens, some great meals, the beautiful embassy apartment we stayed in, it has to be Grand Sumo. Plenty of pics inside but I love this one of some young sumos heading back to their lodging

The Mawari breed of horse with the inward curling ears-owners of a hotel where we stayed bred them & showed us through stables

I got a bit closer to the snake charmers than I was planning-my knees wouldn't cope now either

A trip we're really glad we made, a trip we enjoyed so much, and a place we might not ever return to. China September 2018. Two private tours around a few nights at the start and end points of them. Beijing-Dunhuang-Jiayuguan-Laprang-Lanzhou-Xian-Chengdu-Rilong Town-Chengdu-Beijing.

Dunhuang and Crescent Lake. How either of us thought this would be some remote place with just us intrepid travellers there I have no idea. Our camel ride was one of the funniest things we've ever done with the lady guiding the camels very unhappy that I kept snapping pictures with my phone. I'm guessing I was supposed to be paying for photos. Best of all was the fluoro booties that kept the sand out of peoples' shoes. Maybe if they got lost the booties were what searchers would be looking for :)

Laprang Monastery. To get here we drove from Lanzhou through an area that was literally a sea of mosques. Such a land of contradiction.

A truly magical couple of days up in the Eastern Himalayas. We stayed in Rilong Town and visited/walked the Changping and Shuangqiao Valleys. It was here we found that the way to get away from crowds was to walk...
