Travel Insurance which covers COVID-19?

Upcoming trip to Fiji:

BNE-NAN VA award with taxes paid on Amex
All domestic FJ flights on Amex
All prebooked hotels either on points or Amex
Return NAN-BNE was Amex travel using the $200 credit plus cash for overage.

Do I qualify for the Platinum Edge insurance based on the above?

I am only worried about Covid 7 days isolation if we test positive on the return flight. And they want to see $30k travel insurance before flying to Fiji. Last hotel will be IC Fiji on points so not a cheap 7 days iso!

Who wants to see this, and $30k of coverage for what specifically (medical I assume)?
3) CFC Hotel Booking & Travel Insurance
  • A confirmed minimum 3-night booking with a CFC certified accommodation and confirmed approved transfer from the airport.
  • For travellers entering Fiji for a holiday: medical travel insurance, with international coverage that covers COVID-19 before travelling.  If you don’t you can also purchase COVID-19 medical travel insurance here.

I could have sworn that when I check this some weeks ago there was a dollar amount specified for Covid/medical insurance.

Should a mandated isolation period be required rates start from FJ$450 + FJ$100 per additional person/child & from 1st of April from FJ$650 for 2 adults + FJ$100 per additional person/child has been set with Fiji Tourism.

    650 FJD = $2918 AUD.

If you have to isolate you don't have to do so at the same hotel you have been staying at.

One reason i eliminated IC from my short list for Fiji is that if you test positive, you get moved to covid accommodation (i.e. lesser quality room), whereas at some other hotels including the Sofitel you get to stay in your existing room (and just get insurance to pick up the tab for the extra 7 nights).

With any luck all this testing nonsense will be scrapped in Fiji soon too.

If relying on credit card insurance ask them to provide you a PDF policy rather than just showing the pdf on the web site.

The only reason for the IC is because I have the USA Chase card and get a free anniversary night plus I always get upgraded.

Yeah I hope the testing nonsense goes away. At least for returning to Australia. I am pretty sure we can stay negative by self-isolating for a week prior to travel. And I will bring RATs on the trip and do spot tests every few days. We are bird watcher so won't be around people close up except the domestic flights. I might get the Care Fiji Covid insurance. - FJ_Visit_Insurance.Core.App $80 USD for both.

For those who have decided to stick with the Amex travel insurance - how are you going to "prove" your cover? A lot of places like Singapore / Malaysia have travel insurance as a requirement, but there's not actual certificate of cover provided from Amex.

I believe many insurers who insure for covid will provide you a cover letter saying so.

Conversely how is a local border official going to have the knowledge or the time to check arrivals for compliance.

My reading of 3.1.1(a) is that it covers things like paying for your extra nights in a hotel if you are forced to stay longer due to COVID, but 3.1.2(e) says they won't cover the costs to reschedule your transportation to connect back up to the rest of your journey.

That's a fair read and got me concerned so I made some more enquiries.

Both my parents called Allianz separately this week. They did both end up speaking with the same agent (in Brisbane) but the answer was nonetheless the same: the policy covers rescheduling after covid. The agent referred specifically to page 25 which is part of the very long section on exclusions. Paragraph 16 reads:

[To the extent permitted by law, we do not cover you for any loss, damage or expense arising from, caused by, or in any way related to ...] any epidemic or pandemic, unless your claim relates to you or your travel companion being positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic and cover is expressly included in the following sections: • 1.1 Overseas Emergency Assistance • 1.2 Overseas Emergency Medical • 1.4 Evacuation & Repatriation • 2.1 Cancellation • 3.1 Additional Expenses.

Section 3.1 on additional expenses does "expressly" includes covid:

a] If you cannot continue your journey because of an injury or sickness (including if you are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic, such as COVID-19) that is covered by this insurance, which occurs during the period of cover available for your journey and needs immediate treatment from a medical adviser, we will reimburse your reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses.

Fiji is scrapping the 3 day quarantine requirement from April 7th.
Still pre departure test and RAT within 24 hours plus insurance.

Fiji is scrapping the 3 day quarantine requirement from April 7th.

It wasnt really a strict quarantine, as you were still allowed to frequent hotels, restuarants and tours provided it was with a covid safe operator, during that 3 day period.

It is a shame "People will still be required to show proof of vaccination, a negative pre-departure rapid test from their country of origin, up-to-date travel insurance and a negative rapid test within 24 hours of arrival." I had hoped testing might go altogether.

At least wont need to test to come back.

Do run the risk of being locked up for 7 days in a covid wing if the arrival RAT is positive… I’ll leave Fiji off the list.

I was actually more worried about possibly testing positive on the return RAT after we have taken several domestic flights and been out and about. We are retired and can self-isolate for a week before the trip so we don't risk catching covid beforehand. The arrival RAT will be in a place that costs around $120 a night in Taveuni. The return RAT would have been in the IC which has around $400 a night iso cost and the Fiji Care insurance wouldn't be enough.

We are off in May to SIN and BKK. Everything paid on Amex so using their insurance. There is just the enforced covid insurance for both, Thailand $US20000 and Singapore $S30000 -=$US22000. The Singapore policy is a bit cheaper so thinking of using that for both.

Ive already told the boss im refuse to come into the office for the 10 days before my fiji trip, i wont risk getting covid on PT or in office. WFH am confident i wont pick it up. Would have 5o be very unlucky to get covid in the 5.5 hour period that covers uber to airport, lounge time, flight and transfer to hotel to test positive on arrival RAT given will N95 whole time. Plan is to test asap.

Has anyone travelled to Singapore recently/post implementation of the $30k Covid insurance and know if you get asked to show proof of insurance policy? I'm going over Easter and booked flights on my AMEX Qantas Ultimate card and planning on using the included travel insurance to cover this.

When I flew up just before Christmas I was asked to show it at check in by the SQ staff.

Did you use a complimentary credit card policy or purchased a separate policy?

I haven't followed this long thread, and sorry if I sound a bit lazy by not reading it, I was hopping to get a few insurer name suggestions here for a travel insurance with covid coverage.

My circumstances:
- Primary goal is to be protected against covid and direct hospitalisation costs, as well as other unforseen health and accidents.
- Return flight is on a separate Qantas award flight, looks like there are heaps of economy availability the weeks later, so not too concerned about flight rebooking if needed.
- In case of issue, accommodation would be at friends and family, so not too concerned about hotel cost coverage.
- 3 weeks now, 3 weeks in July, so yearly insurance could make sense if priced correctly. UK / France / Italy

If I could get 2/3 names of descent insurer for this situation that would be a great place to start for me, thanks!

So after a long time of not being in the air, I'm finally flying again in June (yay!)

Will be going to Singapore and DC (family wedding) and have a CBA Ultimate card, however the included insurance, I have just been advised, does NOT cover COVID-19 anything, so it looks like I will need to get extra cover.

Have been looking at Cover More and TID - have used both in the past when I was on more adventurous trips, but have never made a claim. Also looking at 1Cover, but from the Canstar breakdown, all three seem to have 'broadly imposed' conditions to enable them to refuse cover.

I'm travelling by myself, and have no major pre-existing conditions. Anyone who is heading to either of these places - would appreciate any suggestions or guidance as the post COVID-19 travel world seems to have a lot more information to take in.

I'm also going but in May and just purchased through Insure and Go. Personally never claimed anything from them but their Gold policy looks to cover most things well with the same exclusions the majority of other insurers have. The pre-departure claim amount relating to covid is increased with the higher tier policies and has unlimited medical expenses including from covid. Beware though there's a 21-day period from date of policy purchase where you can't claim the pre-departure expenses.
