"TrouserGate" - Australian Cricketers Caught Ball Tampering

A six month ban would only see them missing some one day/T20 fixtures. This is the Test Team. The teams are very different.

It had to be a 12 month ban or they would not miss any Test matches other than the one starting tomorrow. Anything less would not be enough. As previously stated.

Wrong. They would miss tests in Bangladesh (2) & Zimbabwe, plus 16 ODI matches & 2 T20 matches .

And I respectfully disagree with you that 12 months for Smith & 9 months for Bancroft is too harsh.

Those tests didn’t even show in the schedule of test matches. Let’s agree to disagree then. :)

As a general statement, just because things are stated multiple times doesn't mean it is right or that everyone has to agree.
I have been saddened by quite a bit of the media coverage and the judgement and anger being expressed by the public-I think I now identify modern bullying better though
I am also surprised by some comments from ex-players-would their actions have survived the scrutiny of today's technology?
The cricketers made bad decisions and are now facing the consequences. I hope the Australian public can behave better that the mob at JNG airport
It’s all opinion as to what is warranted under the circumstances. The only thing that has been very distasteful is the trolling on the wives and partners of the players.

My thoughts - If you heavily rely on social media for promotion then it’s also reasonable to expect that if things go sour then it will turn on you.

I think some things that have really come to light in all this, is underlying reasons for outrage on two separate groups isn't purely about this one incident.

1. The outrage from Australian fans is that they see their cricketer's to be angels, contrary to the signs which have been there for a very long time. Most have either been blind to the fact they act like mongrel dogs on the field, or just don't care about them abusing people (sorry 'mental disintegration') on the field with the win at all cost mantra, and it has finally just clicked that they're not the angels they turned a blind eye to - this type of behaviour has been handed down the side since Kim Hughes was disgustingly treated by Rod Marsh & Dennis Lillee.

2. The reaction from the internation cricket community is about the Australian team acting with a holier than thou attitude, when they knew this to be complete hogswash, and it has now come home to roost.

And the thing that has got my blood boiling a little is the complete hypocrisy from a few people (and groups) about this absolutely monumental error in judgement. Some of the past cricketers who have made comment have very short memories. And some of the other fans need to have a good hard look at their boards reactions to instances where their players have damaged crickets reputation, for one there's a bloke in NZ who is currently playing that is charged with assault (which is all caught on camera) and their is a captain who is playing against us who's been done tampering twice - so for a South African crowd to be disgustingly barking out 'cheat' in the airport is very very very hypocritical and they obviously don't look in their own backyard.

I’m surprised the Brit was even allowed to travel outside the UK given the charges.

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.
Warren Buffet.

The normal doors that open to ex-cricketers will all be firmly closed at present.

Well if the standards at the AFL are anything to go by, you can beat up women and still be welcomed as a footy commentator. I'm looking at you Wayne Carey and Channel 7.

Missing tests against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh is not enough punishment.

And they are allowed to play grade cricket?

I think they see playing grade cricket as 'putting back in' at the grass roots. Together with 100hrs service in the cricket community.

Not enough punishment? Cost of missing IPL considered, and also massively larger punishment than any other previous transgressor, ever. And the first Board to go over and above the ICC usual wet lettuce slap.

Well the sponsorship fall out has begun, both for the team/CA and for Smith as an individual.

Ah Magellan. It is quite funny reading that the ball tampering incident, doing something against the rules, doesn't fit with Magellan's values - this coming from fund managers - I'll just leave it at that.

I think you'll find that lying to authorities/regulators is frowned upon within the financial services industry, at least if you get caught doing it.

It's not all just about rubbing a ball.

Agreed, it is when you get caught.

I've got some good friends who are in both the funds management game and also investment banking. Let's just say that there are many in those industries that do not always completely follow the regulations they are guided by, and it is more common then you'd think - but really I doubt anyone would find that hard to believe in the financial services sector.

That's why I think it is a little funny in regards to Magellan's comments.

Can’t generalise them all with the same brush. Unfair. Unwarranted.

I heard today they will still get baseline contract payments from CA. That will be around 2 million dollars if the media was correct for Smith and Warner. Hardly peanuts.

I'm not saying all fund managers & IB's are into the dark arts, but it is more common then people realise. And based on probability it is more then likely that there are professionals in that company which tread a very fine line (and probably over it).

But I could be completely wrong and their thousands of employees have never done anything against regulations, but if not then the hypocrisy in their comments is laughable.

True. And all Cricketers have their tricks. Maybe eventually the bats will be seen as giving an unfair advantage just like those weird golf putters. But I think the issue was the stupidity of using tape that was disclosed as sandpaper. It was just ludicrous and blatant abuse.

I am starting to believe I should go to the tests when the Proteas next play in Australia.I will have a big sign
An Aussie cheats-banned.
A Protea cheats-Make him Captain.

Do you understand how advertising works?

Spare me! Now Mickey Arthur is venting that he tried to change the culture but was sacked for his efforts. Sheesh. Not that he was a poor coach who had no understanding of Australian culture and it would have all been solved by making players fill out homework forms instead of training?

It’s all getting reduculous with the hacks and has beens and English cricket captains telling us they knew the “problem” all along...

Warnie seem to be one of them who is saying sensible and sane things, and that indeed is a surprise.:)

I think he did try instil a greater sense of discipline and professionalism but also didn’t get Australian culture.

I think Magellan’s actions are pretty rank actually. Punishing the team many of whom had nothing to do with it.
