Turkish Airlines Status Match

I did the status match in early 2013, booked a couple of SQ J flights SYD>SIN>SYD against M&S, and that was all. Didn't set foot on a TK airline.
Today, after my Status match period elapsed, I received an interesting package - the TK M&S "Classic Plus" kit. So retain star alliance silver through another two years!

Not strictly a status match SBF if you credited the flight points to TK, just a slow recognition of status. Or have I misunderstood you?

It was a status match early last year, from QF WP to TK EP, I didn't do the miles to retain TK EP, and was expecting to fall off a cliff, but they've given me a "soft landing"..to Classic Plus, for two more years.

Thought he implied his 2013 match to TK Elite had now lapsed but courtesy of the SQ flights he had maintained TK Classic Plus (*A silver).

Then you are a lucky one. Well done to salvage something. :)

Has anybody had luck with Honorary circle with Lufthansa ?

I have written to them about five times even written a letter. But to no avail !

They seem not to budge writing a generic letter in reply.

Any suggestions please write!

Finally! Applied in April for status match and received the email today advising I'm now "Elite Card" level

Dear amaroo,

Logged on and can see I've been gifted until 31-5-16 :D Should come in handy for our Gallipoli adventure next year. Thanks to the OP and other posters for putting this on my radar.

The cards turned up today. Not bad - applied April, confirmed early August, cards received late August.

After requalifying in the second year of the status match I think my status is good through about June 2016.

Is the mileage earn requirement the same for requalification again? I think it was 25k in the first year or 37.5 in the second.

Wonderful. Gives me some time to plan.

Indeed.
And, as you can see from my own details, I have some flying to do, if I want to qualify again, post-2016.
I did re-qualify for another two years after my initial Status Match, so TK has had a reasonable amount of business from me that it would certainly not have had without the Status Match, so it's a win for all players. (Admittedly, not all my Star Alliance flights, credited to TK, were on TK metal or code shares but the longer distance flights were all TK.)

Has anyone applied recently? I have a (mainly TG) return F award to FRA with some short euro J segments on LH/OS at the end of the year and was wondering if I had *A Gold (am QF WP) I would be somewhat more protected than having no *A status (which is currently the case)...?

I found *G to be useless when flying J/F. Lounge access is guaranteed already and I couldn't pre-select a better seat (row 1 in J) after adding my *A number.

A very good point. One thing that Oneworld gets right is the ability to do advance seat selection.

A bit late to the party on this one but just saw this post, LH does not status match at all. No exceptions.

Even if they did... for LH, HON Circle is at least P1 level, if not harder to achieve. There's no comparison with QF WP. It's 600,000 status miles over two years on LH group metal (not *A), so that alike 20x SIN-FRA-SIN return in paid F!! Good luck!!

Thanks, I was thinking of irrops but I guess F pax would be at the top of the list..

Technically, as a *G you have some sway with IRROPs but the nominal priority for most airlines would be:
  • First Class / VIPs
  • Top tier host carrier (if higher tier than *G equivalent)
  • *G tier host carrier / Business Class (could be next rank)
  • *G of rest of alliance / Business Class (could be previous rank)
  • *S tier host carrier / *S alliance
...or something like that. But generally the host carrier's tiered members (including their *G tier members) will be looked after first (technically, in many cases it does more come down to a first-come-first-served basis) before other *G members.

If you don't qualify for much protection in the first place (e.g. separate bookings) then status is unlikely to help you considerably, especially if it is not of the host carrier. In cases where assistance is mandated, e.g. EU 261, then your protection is guaranteed anyway. The effect of your not being necessarily helped first (e.g. because a higher ranking tier member will be attended to urgently) is likely to be minimally detrimental, but in being protected the main "issue" is actually getting protection at no additional cost to you - what you get to resolve the issue in that protection one usually has little say in, subject to legal provisions.

I found *G to be useless when flying J/F. Lounge access is guaranteed already and I couldn't pre-select a better seat (row 1 in J) after adding my *A number.

Only real difference I can think of is guesting (*G allowed 1 guest; J with no status is normally no guest); plus for LH, J with no status can only access Lufthansa Business Lounges, whereas *G can additionally access Lufthansa Senator Lounges (irrespective of class or airline of travel). Both are somewhat minor points, all said and done.

If it's any consolation, HON Circle miles are counted unlike "base points" and include all bonuses, e.g. class of service and Executive bonuses.

That said, LH did tighten the rules some time ago where HON Circle miles only counted for travel in Business and First Classes.

I just got a status match for an enquiry that began in March ... 2013!!

I contacted them back then. They requested additional statements which i sent in April that year and i never heard back from them. I sent a follow up email late last year but nothing happened.

Back at the beginning of this year (March probably?) i sent them a fresh copy of the statements and never heard back.

Overnight i just got an email confirming i had been upgraded to Gold.

So in your example, pagingjoan, if you were to get the 25k before 31 August 2015, what would you new Gold expiry be? Similarly, if you didn't get the 25k but did get the 37.5k by 31 August 2016, what would be your expiry? Basically, I'm trying to determine if biting the bullet and meeting the requirement in year one will give me the same expiry date as if I qualified in the second year, or if it actually buys me more time.

As a result of this status match I've flown with TK in J four times (two long-hauls) and found them to be outstanding. But I cannot fathom how their IT systems are so appalling. Both the website and the app repeatedly fail to produce airfare search results and the website frequently returns a 404 message. FlyerTalk has many such tails. Amazing.
