Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

The German Foreign Minster doesn't share your optimism - see a few posts ^^^
The UK’s Financial Services Commissioner Jonathan Hill has resigned, leaving Britain without representation in the EU commission.

Nor does Jonathon Hill leaving UK without representation

It's untenable for him to remain (no different to David Cameron resigning). Nothing special going on there.vv

Agreed so he is not really sharing the optimism is he?

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

I hear Frankfurt will be growing as a financial centre

Wishful thinking. This from Deutsche bank the day before brexit-
Deutsche Bank confirmed on Thursday it had struck a deal with its works council to shut a quarter of its German branches, slightly fewer than expected, as it cuts costs and revamps retail banking.

Germany's biggest lender has embarked on a strategic overhaul, announcing in 2015 that it would cut 9,000 staff positions, of which 4,000 would be in Germany.
It will first shed almost 3,000 jobs in Germany, with 2,500 in its retail unit, while talks with employee representatives about further cuts continue, Deutsche Bank said in a statement.

Morgan Stanley to move 2,000 jobs either there or Dublin, JP Morgan to move 4,000, others I'm not at liberty to discuss, and I'm sure they won't be alone. There will also be a big announcement from Angel Lane early next week.

Deutsche Bank has been in trouble for a while due to derivatives exposure, and this is all currently looking like a best-case scenario for them compared to what people were saying a few months ago.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Could be worse - after all they're only bankers :D

Any sources, by any chance, that you are at liberty to divulge?

But no doubt your figures are true ... so ...they worked all that out ... in a day?? The banks, after all, were confident of a Stay result.

Lets see how many London [-]w[/-]bankers want to move to Dublin! And I wonder how the out-of-work Deutsche Bank staff are going to react to thousands of MS or JPM workers descending on Frankfurt. (Wonder if they'll get work visas?)

Re Angel Lane ... are the students going to announce a new hash tag? That'll show those selfish baby boomers!

Just to illustrate to silliness of all this stuff in the first 24-48 hours.

Believe what you want. Your understanding of how investment banks operate does seem just a tad limited, though.

I have no freakin' stake one way or the other. I do at least have a clue, though.

Banks have been planning for Brexit (if required) for months. This has all been worked out previously - not in the last 24 hours. Agree about bankers not wanting to move, but the reality will be that some jobs are lost in the banking industry in London and moved elsewhere.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

On the bright side, there'll be plenty of work for lawyers to sort it all out :p

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Watching the UK tear themselves apart, I have one word in my head... Schadenfreude

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

An entirely frustrating article :(: Brexit: What does it mean for Australians living in Europe and the UK? - Brexit: UK EU Referendum - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Interviews with a few aussies who are concerned about Brexit because it will affect their rights to use their aquired citizenship to work elsewhere in the EU. That's it for them, using the UK not to live there - or be a proud citizen of the country they want to become part of - but to exploit rights to work somewhere else.

One of the requirements of becoming a British citizen through naturalisation is that you must have an intention to live in the UK. One person 'can't see the value in a UK passport' anymore so may not apply to become a citizen. If that's the only basis for applying - better not to!

I worked in investment banking for 10 years, in Australia and London, including for Deusche Bank for a while ( in Oz) under the unlamented Ralph Brauer. Maybe I know a bit about how investment banks operate :) (and the predilections of the London lot).

PS: I also know what 'volatility' (= fear) means to investment banks: ker-ching!

There are sore losers everywhere. Why didn't they spend the energy they're now exhaling on ensuring that the remain campaign was better, and that their friends and family were registered to vote.

No. Just dealing with the consequences of a vote that divided loyalties prior to the poll. A stay vote would not have been popular with the brexit side but it would just mean that nothing changes. The brexit win means everything changes.

Blind Freddy could have anticipated this reaction. Not sure why the surprise.
