Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

And really, I'm looking for the reasons why Australians are voting Pauline into the senate. Surely those muttering about Brexit who have zero ties to the UK apart from being in a Commonwealth country should be moving onto the next rent-a-crowd/ populist target!
The reasons aren't obvious? Australians have head enough. I am surprised she didn't get more votes.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Another facepalm article from the media...

Brexit fallout: Expats prepare for pain and red tape

And again the peanut gallery (99% of which had no say in the matter, and don't understand the local issues) call people who voted out 'lemmings', 'morons', 'wrong', 'racist' , 'xenophobic', 'poor', 'uneducated', 'misled' etc etc etc.

The one thing that has amazed me about this referendum is the amount of vitriole and childish dummy-spits that I have seen from many of my highly-educated university friends who clearly supported the Remain camp. It literally bowls me over that they have lapped up everything the Remain propaganda said, including the fact that everything the Leave camp said was a lie, without entertainting the idea, even for one second, that the Remain camp were lying too!

I doubt they would all be calling for another refendum if they had won by 3.6%.

I wonder why politicians lying during a campaign is such a surprise to everyone. Wasn't it always thus?

Whilst watching the Channel 7 telecast Alan Jones interviewed her.she was apparently constantly touring rural QLD during the drought organising help without TV cameras present. He said he was constantly hearing how grateful everyone was so not surprising the number of votes she got.

She has some great ideas and some poor ideas depending on which side of the fence you are sitting.

The key one for me has been the abuse of 457 visas. A lot harder for me to get a job and I now work in Brisbane away from my home. And regardless of what company heads say the salaries are now significantly lower and more in line with IT salaries in SE Asia.

Andrea Leadsom will make a fine PM. A Thatcher for our times!

While I agree that a change in the UK was needed, I'll happily say that I'm glad I did not have to make the decision. And again while I'm a fan of Mrs. Thatcher's legacy, there are a number of my more liberal friends who are not...

I'm also beginning to think I'm happy to be living a LONG way from certain urban areas.

Happy wandering

She won't get the chance. Theresa May will be the next Pm, and I'm just disappointed I didn't bet on her when she was offering odds of 10-1 with the bookies.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

My CYBG shares got hit so remember to tell me when there is a good bet on English pollies.
Back in Australia the election loser is doing "victory tours" and is all smiles because he hasn't been discarded yet. I still wonder if this Aussie could run a pay toilet.I couldn't believe he thought borrowing another 20 billion from the Chinese to run some social programs would help our nation.
Has the pound printing machine helped stabilize your faltering UK banks?

Well they're allowing banks to loan more at the moment to help the economy (reducing the minimum capital reserves they must have). So the banks are being helped!

And yes, I'm disappointed I didn't take that bet. (not that the final result is known yet! ) Would have rounded off some very juicy bets recently.

Sorry about your shares but what goes down does eventually come up so they say!
The victory tours you mention cove I chuckled to myself so true. Has not even conceded despite the figures coming through looking like more like coalition on top.
Anyway no more referendums!

So Mal, what's your take on Boris Johnson not putting his hat in the ring? Is he keeping his powder dry and avoiding the expected collateral damage of the Brexit?

When your own campaign chairman decides to publicly announce you are unfit for the job, steals a bunch of your supporters, and decides to run himself - that's basically a mortal wound.

He was out maneuvered. Cameron refusing to trigger the button and the high level of public hate directed towards him made life very difficult. Johnson is damaged goods, hated by 48pc of the voting public and a high proportion of euro citizens living in the UK. His position was untenable basically.

So he couldn't win either way? Not sure he volunteered to be the political fall guy.
