Okay, I reckon I've probably got my foreign words mixed up! Since returning from London, I've only ever ordered pints anyway as pots really do seem somewhat iddy biddy and am willing to stand corrected on my lingo.

You will be bitterly disappointed in South Australia then Ewing

Bugger.

I've never actually consumed any alcoholic beverage other than wine when in SA, so I'll just stick to that :D

At the MEL/SYD F/L's you will be served beers in 415 ml (14oz) glasses - poured straight from the small 330/375ml (12/13oz) bottles.

FWIW, there is no real bar, although there's a marble servery you may wish to front.

As for drink sizes - in Vic, a POT is a 285ml (½ pint/10 imp. oz) glass.

A GLASS is a 200ml (7 imp. oz) container.

A SCHOONER is a 425ml (¾ Pint/15 imp. oz) glass.

A PINT is a 570ml (1 Pint/20 imp. oz) glass. (Supposed to be anyway; some roguish establishments pass a "schooner" off as a "pint".)

* that's the Melbourne word for schooners, you know... ;)

If the Melbourne word for schooners is pot, what’s the Melbourne word for pot? In QLD you can order 3 sizes of drink, pot, schooner and pint. So if your pots are our schooners, then what are our pots? :p

Asking for a pot in Melbourne has always got me something much smaller than I would expect of a schooner. Closer to something that in Perth would be called a middy.

I was going to say that lawlass must be showing South Australian Heritage. In SA a schooner = a pot/midi, a pint= a schooner, and if you want an imperial pint = a pint. If you want to be really disappointed in a beer in South Australia ask for a butcher

Holy metathread Batman! All from me trying to make a (lame anyway) play on the word "pot":mrgreen:

So anyway, yeah, woo hoo, looking forward to the wake, hope the Qantas peeps will be lovely and is anyone up to the task of making up a list of attendees?

This joint has gone to the dogs... I'm going to stash my laptop for the night. I might pipe down for a while, I've been a little noisy, especially with my bell I have been playing with, going bong, bong all afternoon.

I may order a few pots* at the bar, but have no intention of stirring any. :) I see this as a totally good-natured little adventure so hopefully any 'planned strategy' would be no more than to help us have as good a time as possible.

Pots -> Schooners, are you sure? All my mates in Melbourne refer to pots as midis e.g. half pints.

Edit: never mind, looks like it's been answered by many others :D

Yeah, I feel like a right dope. Is there a keyboard equivalent for a cone of silence? This thread lost it at around post 420.

Perhaps AJ could join us for some Neil Perry Pot-Stickers before boarding QF11 to celebrate the return of the A380 to LAX..??

I don't seem to recall if they serve Guinness in the F lounge though...

I think an off-topic discussion on glass sizes could be moved to the OTT. But we aren't too far off, and threads inevitably head off-topic as they get closer to the end.

I hope they do! Never looked. :o

I was thinking of catering for AJ ;)

I think decisions like this are best left to those in authority dont you Sam?

Given this thread is about a wake to celebrate the last weekend of anytime access to the QPs across Australia then a discussion about how to order your beer in each state would seem appropriate for those not in their home state as part of the journey.

Is everyone bringing their relevant state sized beer glass to use on the breaks between lounges whilst in the air? :p

Awesome link, and will certainly help me to that end, all I have to remember is I either want a schooner or a pint, and I can’t go wrong :)

Exactly why I said could, not should, simple suggestion as opposed to telling anyone what to do. :-|

I still believe the easiest way to avoid glass size issues is to simply order jugs!
