Upcoming Qantas Frequent Flyer Changes

Actually I realised something on my flight back from BNE to SYD.

With WP1 I'm not going to get my row 23/24 seats very often anymore on the dom 767's...

DAMN YOU QF>>>!!! =) no but i'm slightly annoyed... I'd imagine WP1's would have the front row access only from Dec onwards... booooooo =)

There is a trick to ensure always getting the front row, I don't see that ending when WP1 is introduced.

But do you see that they're re-accessing based on a 25% points movement on the base miles for a sg? This thread was in reaction to an announcement that sg and ps will earn more points and it did wp's

Yes, an increase the makes gold relatively more valuable, or platinum less valuable, and hence the extra flying for platinum might be better directed elsewhere. That is the reassessment, stick to plat or drop to gold

How WP1's will there be in total, not many. And of total WP1's, how many will happen to be on your flight? 1, 2 or 3? How many seats are there in the front row? 6...
You'll be ok Gumpy.

Ahh, but they said current WP benefits will NOT be affected. ;) QF wouldn't lie, would they?

Yep I understand but you'd still much prefer WP wouldn't you? I do Y dom 80% of the time and looking at how it stands I still much rather be WP before I spin my flights to AirNZ for some of my other flights.

@ Red Roo, thanks for the link re: WPs having preferential access to award seats. That link only cements my feelings that SG is the sweet spot in the QF FF program, given they also have same preferential access to award seats.

Qantas Frequent Flyer said:
Qantas provides preferential access, when available, to selected Qantas Classic Award seats to Silver, Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyers. On selected flights, preferential access for Gold and Platinum members may be above the access available to Silver and Bronze members+.

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Platinum Benefits

I think this point has been totally missed by the people calling Platinums whingers.

QF has made a decision. Now a lot of Platinums will re-assess whether it is worth pursuing Platinum in the future or do they stop QF flights/crediting to QFF after reaching 600 SCs.

Personally anyway you look it is that QF has made a bad decision in trying to promote Silver and Gold against VA Velocity and they will lose Platinum business.

If that has been worked into their model then fine otherwise they will find they will lose business and it will not be Silver and Gold but rather Platinum business.

Now to all those that said that Gold can be anywhere from 600-1190 SCs for requalificationor 700-1390 SCs for initial qualification then they neglected to mention that Platinum can also include anyone up to 3,590 SCs. That is still significant SC earning over and above Gold.

Oh well QF has made the decision and to see the backlash at least from AFF members first. I know QF did lose some business to VA and Velocity after the last "enhanements".

Personally to repeat myself again then I believe QF has had way too many enhancements in the last 5-6 years and a lot of them have been to the detriment of Platinum status.

Anyway their program and they can make "enhancements" anyway they see fit.

100% correct and well stated, Platinum Members can now wait 2-3 weeks to see if Qantas want to reconsider, if not, it is our wallet and our decision whether we jump or, join a second FF Program.

In our family of 4 this is really not too bad. Mrscove is WP,I am SG and the 2 kids are Silver.
It could just get down to picking one family member to go for some JASA status runs to make WP1.
Once these numbers are achieved it will be pretty simple to see if those status runs are worthwhile.
From Perth it is a bit harder than from other cities as PER-MEL or SYD only harvests
80 so clearly a run using the east coast towns is the easy option.
Markis10 could lay out two or 3 runs so the WP1 aspirant does not get too bored with same old, same old airports.
Is there someone ready for some action?

Straitman we should make this the new game in town.
Need some input from SC harvesters to provide a variety of locations!

Yes you're right - when you apply your theory to a single instance.

But if i'm a business and I'm offering a special service for my VIP's, or maybe a Xmas wine bottle etc, I'm going to send them/invite my regular customers. (or in airline speak - my high status customers). Cheap or not on a singular day - they have spent enough over the year to warrant the attention.

The once off cash-splasher.... Sure, I'll treat them special because they are spending big (today), and I hope they might come back tomorrow.

But i'm not going to alienate my bread and butter loyal (proven loyalty) customer in doing so.

So yes - there are countless examples in every industry that you can think of.

The question wasn't "should F flyers be treated well?", it was "should loyal status customers be treated worse?".

But you can draw this analogy either way.
Say you run a bakery... Do you provide your xmas bottle of wine to the customer who comes in every week to buy a single bread role on which you make hardly any margin, or to the customer who comes in every couple of months buying the chocolate cake on which you make a lot of margin

I think that 2000 of the 3600 sc's required have to be on QF metal.

Cove, if you fund me JASA's, I'll do it and let you know the outcome. LOL.

Silvers flying -Y or Y got a 100% increase. 25% to 50%.
Golds flying -Y or Y got a 50% increase. 50% to 75%.
WPs flying -Y or Y got a zilch increase.

You can also spin it that in terms of total miles earnt for a flight and the increases are nowhere near as dramatic. Silver instead gets a 20% increase in overall miles, Gold a gets a 17% increase. And short flights makes no difference (where a lot of the bread and butter golds and silvers would earn their status, flying sectors like MEL-SYD, SYD-BNE).

Oneworldplus2 I think you would have to become a rellie based on the QF official list.
SQ is easier with those 5 nominations per family account but that is no good for the WP1 quest.
How many points minimum could get you WP1 status starting from say SYD using only QF metal using gettable JASAs?
The JASA booking engine seems to be back working OK now but I am no big fan of those ones that offer 80 credits for 220k points with"Hurry" beside the offer.

The current best value JASA is TSV-DRW via BNE return, which can be had for 36000 points (after deducting the points earned as a WP) and $200 cash, that earns 280 SC. Those wishing to make a run would probably couple that with a ADL-BNE-TSV run for similar cost but only adds 240 SC.

That means we could manufacture a WP1 for about 500k to 600k points range if we are not too fussy about some of those towns.
Out of Perth doing one ways would use 45 goes at 80 a pop so 45 lots of 45,000 looked a bit hexy and tube 2 million points.
Getting back to markis10 and his 2 routes we could make those points for about $4k so we could have the first "wholesale WP1" in our membership.
