I've been fortunate to have had a number of points upgrades on QFi, and every time my TA later tells me that he'd noticed that my upgrade came through.

I expect that all TAs get notified of TA booked flights where the customer requests a points upgrade directly with QF.

It's not that TA's specifically get advised when upgrade requests come through but any changes to flights eg sked changes, class, timings etc get queued back to the agent via their GDS for action ie to contact the pax.

Your agent sounds like they're on to it however some other TA's & one large chain springs to mind don't seem to take much notice (sked changes) & therefore pax do not get told of their flight change.

Remember that the QF rep apologized and said it was an error and they were looking into it not happening again. Maybe an impossible promise - but in featheast's case we know that the points were not deducted, so that was possibly a different situation to pugwombat's case.

It's highly likely that if the points were not deducted then either there were insufficient points in the account or the points were there but the PIN was incorrect in which case the airline would contact you to rectify this so the points upgrade could still go through.

If you have for foreign sim your phone you are "no comms" so you may as well have left your phone at home as it's likely that your Australian mobile number is the one in your booking and freq flyer profile. Airlines can not get in touch with you if you have a overseas sim card in your phone.

If you are not reachable on your Aussie mobile while overseas it's probably a good idea to call up the day prior to check everything is in order with the booking. Had there been an issue with the PIN there would've have comments in the pnr regarding any issues to the CSR know what's going on & what needs to be done if the pax calls back.
