The only way to guarantee a J seat is to pay for it.
PF has a J seat.
She wants - and has paid for (in points) an F seat.

Perhaps re-read the messages above to clear up the confusion.I have had a good strike rate with points upgrades....BUT there are no guarantees.....
Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?
Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.
Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
Now an email from EF alerts letting me know that my J seat is empty :?:
PF has been confirmed in F now (I am sure she will drop a message in here soon)
Yes indeed it has all been sorted

I've been fortunate to have had a number of points upgrades on QFi, and every time my TA later tells me that he'd noticed that my upgrade came through.
I expect that all TAs get notified of TA booked flights where the customer requests a points upgrade directly with QF.
Remember that the QF rep apologized and said it was an error and they were looking into it not happening again. Maybe an impossible promise - but in featheast's case we know that the points were not deducted, so that was possibly a different situation to pugwombat's case.
Now, that is a view I have had once before...I'm here
