US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

the next buy promo won't be until at least this current offer ends. and finding f availability is very hard. I would secure it now if you can.

Thanks for the advice MEL_Traveller... considering what you have said - and thinking on it a bit further myself - I think I will go for my option #2, namely to use a combo of buy + Amex->SPG->MR to get the required points now.

I would normally think that sharing works both ways... but then last year they had a promo where an account could only benefit once... so you could either share with someone (and they got the bonus) or they could share with you (and you got the bonus). either way, US argued that you, the account holder, beneffitted (either by sharing the bonus miles or receiving them)

This appears to be how the current promo works too, unfortunately. The T&Cs state:

Offer valid for your FIRST Share transaction (purchaser or recipient) made between July 1, 2012 00:00:01 AM PT and July 31, 2012 23:59:59 PM PT. This bonus is only applicable for Share Miles and the offer does not apply to Buy or Gift Miles transactions. Bonus amounts will be awarded upon completion of the transaction. Bonus miles will be awarded to the recipient of the Share. Offer is subject to change. Offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Only purchases made online are eligible.

As usual it's a bit ambiguous, but the "first share transaction (purchaser or recipient)" seems to suggest we can't mutually share - and as I said earlier it would be expensive to try to do this and have them fail to award the second lot of bonus points.

Thanks for advice guys I just ended up ticketing LHR straight through to Syd all in J class with SQ sure the
father in law will be happy enough.

Took around 90 mins as after the Nz routing disappeared the US rep had to start again and the second attempt
he had the wrong flight numbers. I was on hold for 30 mins on 2 occasions, the first time my battery died!!!!

Anyway all booked ok although the taxes departing from LHR were pretty painful - taxes & fees came to over $500
per person. I booked an itinerary for myself departing CDG and the taxes were only around the $200 mark so
a Eurostar trip is certainly an option if you want to save a few $$

Hi guys

Im just on the phone trying to book a simple award booking as follows:

LHR - SIN
SIN - SYD
SYD - AKL Dest

AKL - SYD Stopover
SYD - SIN
SIN - LHR

however the US rep is telling me i cant have a stopover in syd as it isnt an NZ hub!

Is this correct? i said fair enough and ive just put the LHR - SYD on hold.

That's an excellent booking. SQ J has seemed pretty scarce through US DM - can I ask how far out you have booked (i.e. when is the trip?). or was SQ still available because of their changeover of computer systems over the weekend?

Best to use the skyp freecall number next time. less chance of running out of battery or costing you money;)

Booked this morning after reading about the SQ booking opening up for some reason. I thought i was late as someone quoted there system was being updated or being worked on
over the wkd but i jumped on awardr around 7:30 and there was plenty of openings - I felt like a kid in a sweet shop and i wasnt even booking the tickets for my use!!

The flights are dep Feb & back in March. Like i mentioned its a shame i couldnt ticket through to AKL but didnt want to push my luck & as i was advised on here he was right in
what he was saying. However, last year i managed to book LHR through to CHC with an openjaw flying back from Queenstown & a stopover in Syd so it shows its pot luck what you
can ticket depending on who you talk to.

Last Oct i booked my current booking which departed in Dec 2011 BHX - FRA - SIN - SYD & im flying back the same route in 2 weeks & thats LH & SQ a380. So there is
availability on SQ just not consistently. I had seen SQ & LH a380 availability open up around Sept & booked it in Oct.

Oh & luckily i had Skype on the iphone as i just had the speaker on and charging while i was on hold.

Not only will you save some $$$ by avoiding the LON APD you could also have a couple of nights in Paris, just because you can :) And who says no to visiting Paris just for kicks.

Does anyone know if SQ will honour these bookings? Bit of speculation on FT they wont?

who knows. from what we read on FT they have been instructed to honour them for the moment. Perhaps they will come back and offer business class, perhaps they will honour First. I think the latter is the most likely - bookings will stand. If they try to cancel they'll have a whole lot of complaints via the DOT I would imagine. It wouldn't be worth their while to try, at lest for any itinerary that touches the USA.

US Dividend Miles - Daily Deals

Did anyone here get in on the Dividend Miles Daily Deals recent $5 for 500 miles deal. Daily Deals is like living social or groupon but is a good way to keep your DM account ticking over with the 500 points first use bonus. Here's the deal

REFERRAL REWARDS - THE NUMBERS
5 Dividend Miles are earned for every dollar you spend with Daily Deal.
500 Dividend Miles are earned on your 1st purchase.
500 Dividend Miles are awarded to you for every person you refer once they make their first purchase. Please note all miles are accrued in your Daily Deal account until you make your first purchase at which time they will be transferred to your Dividend Miles account.
500 Dividend Miles are awarded to your referrals once they make their first purchase.

The trick is to get a very cheap deal, I first signed up about a month ago when there was a $4 deal and have been waiting a while for a cheap deal and then last Friday (and again on Monday as it happens) there was a $5 deal for a magazine. So I bought for myself and then referred each of my 4 family members who have accounts who also bought the deal. So all up $25 for 4625 points between us (5 * 1st purchase bonus, 5 * 25 points and 4 * 500 referral fees). Cheap Points AND extends the clock for each of us on the 18 month countdown.

If interested happy for anyone to use my referral code Today's Daily Deal brought to you by Acumed USA, LLC in New Yo... (disclosure: I get 500 points if you do so of course I'm happy for you to use, but you lose nothing by doing so!). Then you just wait for a cheap deal and also of course refer to family/friends.

Note: as with all these coupon site you are buying a coupon, many of these don't get used (and don't need to be used to get the points) but for a bit of karma you may want to google shelters etc. who can find a usage for these items and send there.

Thanks for the tip - just signed up (using you as referrer). Just to make sure I understand, this is only really useful once yeah - when you make your first purchase and get the 500 bonus points?

I'm in the middle of putting together an Australia to USA and vv in F itinerary using Dividend Miles.

Still exploring options, but two possible routing for the trip over are SYD-xBKK-xICN-xLAX-JFK and SYD-xBKK-xICN-xORD-IAD. The int F sectors of the former (SYD-xBKK and xICN-xLAX) are both on TG, whereas the int F sectors of the latter (SYD-xBKK and xICN-xORD) are on TG and OZ respectively.

Can anyone who has flown both TG and OZ F give me a quick comparison - is either markedly better than the other?

Thanks.

Unless they have some sort of future bonus yes, plus of course when I went to the States I actually signed up there and grabbed some livingsocial/groupon deals. So if you are going to the US it's possible you might find something actually useful.

Also you can do for any other members of your family too and/or refer friends.

they're both quite different. I'd take OZ over TG - not for the ground handling (TG wins on that in BKK) but for the on board service (their champagne is delicious, and the food is of better quality than TG).

I tried to book a SYD to EZE routing last night with alot of legs on SQ F. Alas looks like SQ availability is now back to zilch. Kicking myself for not booking earlier this week.

Yes it's on Aeroplan too...but I already called US tonight about some I saw (well actually C on 77W & A380) and they don't see anything. I have a feeling a long sell might be able to snag it...some people seem to be getting it via Aeroplan by playing with the website a bit!
