Yes it's on Aeroplan too...but I already called US tonight about some I saw (well actually C on 77W & A380) and they don't see anything. I have a feeling a long sell might be able to snag it...some people seem to be getting it via Aeroplan by playing with the website a bit!

+1. I just called to try an change an existing booking but the agent couldn't see any availability.

seeing some First with SIA on the award travelr website now..:)

it was 24 hours ago as well.

I called US when I saw the availability yesterday and they can only see coach.

Seems like US and UA may have put blocks on at their end?

I know ANA won't show it even if the inventory is there...tried LifeMiles online booking and it also shows no availability on the dates Aeroplan shows...when typically it's more than happy to show SQ. I think it's true that most Aeroplan people are also saying that the online booking fails at confirmation and agents say no full stop.

Does anyone know what I would have to do if I booked 2 adults in F or J using USDM for next year Aus to the US, and then after having booked we had a baby? Can an infant fare be added on for additional points + taxes, or would I have to buy an infant fare for all flights? Has anyone had experience with this?

you can buy an infant fare. Based on the experience of others, I would shop around to get the best deal (hang up and call again). Some people were quoted wildly varying price ranges. So if it sounds 'expensive' then call back. It 'should' be 10% of the adult fare, so an F to the US you'd be looking maybe $1000-1600 I'd think. But it should NOT be more expensive than buying a miles ticket in its own right (so if they're getting to the 2200-2500 mark you need to call again.

I don't want to get into a big debate about this and I don't know you or your situation but I would strongly encourage you NOT to book an F redemption with a baby. Revenue pax pay a LOT of money for a premium experience and I really don't think it is fair on them if a redemption pax brings a baby into an F cabin. Flat beds are fairly useless if there is a screaming child behind you while you are trying to sleep.

I know it puts you in a tough place (and yes, your child may be different), but please keep this is mind when booking - there is a reason MAS have banned babies from First Class. Even as a redemption pax I would be absolutely livid if my F journey was ruined by a screaming baby - I cannot imagine what my reaction would be if I had paid full fare.

I am an old bachelor.. never had any kids... very little experience with them.. don't even like them much...

BUT I'll still say to the previous poster.. You need to fly on a private jet. None of us have any right whatsoever to decree who can or cannot be on the aircaft with us.

(I'm not allowed to have the loud snorers banned...yet they are FAR more common than screaming babies, and the noise goes on for ever!)

"Fair" What has that got to do with anything?

Excuse me?

This is a can of worms, so it should really be in a thread of its own.

Okay, let's agree to disagree. As I said, I didn't want to debate it, it is just my personal opinion (which is what internet forums are all about).

Whatttttttt??!?!?! [and this is coming from a single young man, with no children that he knows off]

This issue has been debated multiple times, regularly. At the end of the day each passenger in whatever cabin they're in rightly belongs there, irrespective of how they got there [award, paid or points upgrade, op-up, revenue ticket, won through competition or whatever else] as long as its legal [ie no sneaking into the F cabin because you saw an empty seat].

If any full fare F passenger, or any passenger in any cabin for that matter, think that they are too precious to be disturbed by a screaming baby, then go get a private jet or don't fly. Seriously.

PS Hello from SCL :) Departing in90 minutes, LA622 to MEX.

Sounds like we need a RESMED spotters fee thread as the sleep machine stops snoring.........
By the way I met the head honch of RESMED in QF first class long haul so that spotters fee should be reasonable.

true First class passengers have the attitude not to care if there is a baby in the cabin. Those who get there cheaply seem to be the ones that make the fuss... those that fly once in a lifetime on an award booking for example. For those that travel frequently you get the good flights with the bad. It's all part of travel.

As far as I'm aware the only reason MAS banned babies in F was because the seats don't have facilities for babies (I don't think they're equipped with a bassinet). The same reason TG bans children from 77W aircraft in premium cabins... on safety, not because of some pax comfort principle.

Twice on holidays with my two 4 and 2 I was asked to quiet them down. Once on the plane the LH Flight from fra to yyz one lady sitting alone told the FA to relay to me about the noise. And then again in the Hilton arc de trimphome in Paris I was again asked to quiet them down politely .

If I was travelling in F and paying big dollars with screaming kids I would say something too :)

I think it comes down to some people having no concept of the difference between a desire and an entitlement (due to selfishness - or whatever other reason).

I absolutely desire not to have a screaming baby next to me in F (or any other cabin) as I find them incredibly irritating, and would probably go out of my way to choose to fly on an airline which banned babies (for whatever reason) to achieve this desire. There's nothing wrong with that. But, if the airline allows babies, I have absolutely no entitlement not to have a screaming baby next to me - I'm no more or less special than the next pax, and have no right to expect they will disadvantage themselves just to keep me happy.

Agree with this. Our kids are older but even in F it's not all about you, if someone has paid for their infant to join them they are entitled to be there.

Oh, and if you don't want to debate it posting it to a public forum would seem to be a tad stupid. Maybe best to keep such opinions to close friends (even then I'd be very careful myself, I am not that keen to have my close friends think I'm a self indulgent wanker).

Hi All

Sage advice welcome.

Planning on redeeming a fligh to LHR (and out from anywhere but LHR).

I can get OZ to ICN easy from Sydney. I notice that the connecting flight does not leave til the next morning. Do people usually stay in an airport hotel or is the city centre easily accessible from the airport? I have never been to Seoul before and even if it is for one night it might be worthwhile looking at.

Getting home is proving to be a bit more problematic. TG seems to be booked up for the dates that I want (and dates either side) in Business (first is available but I do not have enought points for it). I can get a flight with OS from Vie to BKK. How do they rate? I love Vienna so always happy go there but not sure about OS for a long haul in Business? What do people think? Getting home from BKK is proving tricky though so that is something I will have to factor in. The reason I want to go through BKK is that I was thinking of stopping there for a few days and plonking my cough on a beach for a few days. I do not suppose there are any good resorts within a reasonable distance of Singapore as I could consider transisting through there? Direct flights are at a premium as I will be travelling with a young fellow. The problem with Singapore is that I will not get on a business class flight out of there will I given I missed the boat with the IT glitch?

Overnight in Seoul you can easily reach the centre of town - I think its about 50 mins or something? You can google Seoul airport and trains from there to the city. I was searching last year and it all seemed pretty easy to get to town.

Coming home - you can always fly Egyptair to Bangkok. Depending where you leave from in Europe you may get a wide-body jet with angled lie flats. Otherwise it will be a reasonable fixed 2+2 seating (similar to domestic QF). From Cairo you will have full flat beds on their 777. No alcohol though. Reports are that the flights are not too bad - and would beat TG angled lie flats.

From BKK you CAN fly via Singapore to get home, using either TG or SQ to SIN then connecting on a regional 777 (they fly to MEL, not sure about SYD - you'd need to check your dates). There are no restrictions on award availability on SQ regional aircraft (non A380 or 77W). The regionals offer angled lie flats.

Or you can wait a while and catch another TG direct service.

If you need First class - you can always buy miles at full price to top up.

OS? Google 'passenger opinions Austrian Airlines' - that will bring up the skytrax reviews. I thought their long hauls to BKK were now operated by Austrian Arrows or something rather than pure OS, but I could be wrong (and have no idea what the actual difference is anyway).

Near to SIN you could always go to Sentosa Island... or across the border to Penang etc.

Daily Deal today $4.98 for 500 points

It's back $5 for 500 miles deal. Daily Deals is like living social or groupon but is a good way to keep your DM account ticking over with the 500 points first use bonus. Here's the deal

REFERRAL REWARDS - THE NUMBERS
5 Dividend Miles are earned for every dollar you spend with Daily Deal.
500 Dividend Miles are earned on your 1st purchase.
500 Dividend Miles are awarded to you for every person you refer once they make their first purchase. Please note all miles are accrued in your Daily Deal account until you make your first purchase at which time they will be transferred to your Dividend Miles account.
500 Dividend Miles are awarded to your referrals once they make their first purchase.

The trick is to get a very cheap deal, I first signed up about a month ago when there was a $4 deal and have been waiting a while for a cheap deal and then last Friday (and again on Monday as it happens) there was a $5 deal for a magazine. So I bought for myself and then referred each of my 4 family members who have accounts who also bought the deal. So all up $25 for 4625 points between us (5 * 1st purchase bonus, 5 * 25 points and 4 * 500 referral fees). Cheap Points AND extends the clock for each of us on the 18 month countdown.

If interested happy for anyone to use my referral code http://www.dmdailydeal.com/Today.aspx?pc=burmans01_82506 (disclosure: I get 500 points if you do so of course I'm happy for you to use, but you lose nothing by doing so!). Then you just wait for a cheap deal and also of course refer to family/friends.

Note: as with all these coupon site you are buying a coupon, many of these don't get used (and don't need to be used to get the points) but for a bit of karma you may want to google shelters etc. who can find a usage for these items and send there.

Re: Daily Deal today $4.98 for 500 points

Thanks for the reply Mel. Out of curiosity, if one flight is on First, do US charge you the higher rate for the whole trip as opposed to the 120k rate?
