Re: Daily Deal today $4.98 for 500 points

Thanks for the reply Mel. Out of curiosity, if one flight is on First, do US charge you the higher rate for the whole trip as opposed to the 120k rate?

Yes, they will.

Hi All

Sage advice welcome.

Planning on redeeming a fligh to LHR (and out from anywhere but LHR).

I can get OZ to ICN easy from Sydney. I notice that the connecting flight does not leave til the next morning. Do people usually stay in an airport hotel or is the city centre easily accessible from the airport? I have never been to Seoul before and even if it is for one night it might be worthwhile looking at.

Getting home is proving to be a bit more problematic. TG seems to be booked up for the dates that I want (and dates either side) in Business (first is available but I do not have enought points for it). I can get a flight with OS from Vie to BKK. How do they rate? I love Vienna so always happy go there but not sure about OS for a long haul in Business? What do people think? Getting home from BKK is proving tricky though so that is something I will have to factor in. The reason I want to go through BKK is that I was thinking of stopping there for a few days and plonking my cough on a beach for a few days. I do not suppose there are any good resorts within a reasonable distance of Singapore as I could consider transisting through there? Direct flights are at a premium as I will be travelling with a young fellow. The problem with Singapore is that I will not get on a business class flight out of there will I given I missed the boat with the IT glitch?

Ive flown OS on the VIE-BKK route which is on a 777. The seats are angled and older style lie-flats, not great for J these days but still comfy and miles ahead of Y (no pajamas and a basic amenity kit). The entertainment system was pretty average (not on demand from memory and a pretty small screen with limited options).
The food however was excellent, as their catering is done by Do and Co. Bit of a gimmick but they have a chef on board who will "prepare" the food, decent choices and plenty of it finished off with speciality coffees. They also do the breakfast order service like QF. Service was ok but be careful with your luggage weight, some of the check in staff will try to charge you if you are 1kg over. There's also a very basic lounge in Vienna.

Just to note.... QF is one of very few airlines that actually provides PJ's in J, it's generally an F thing.

Overnight in Seoul you can easily reach the centre of town - I think its about 50 mins or something?
Get the fast train to the city and taxi to hotel (v. Cheap), bus or taxi from airport takes 90 mins, I suggest a hotel close to the station, not the business area which is dead. Seoul is great at night, Inchon dead (I lived there once for 3 months).

Okay, let's agree to disagree. As I said, I didn't want to debate it, it is just my personal opinion (which is what internet forums are all about).

I guess if you don't want to debate something, you could always not mention it.

BTW both of my children were perfect babies because they have good parents (mother mostly) who knew how to care for them as babies. I've also seen poor parents and troublesome babies as a result. For that reason all or nothing opinions are really meaningless to me.

Re: Daily Deal today $4.98 for 500 points

Tried to make a booking last night into FCO with SQ J (yes I was in hope) SQ J ex BNE was visible to the agent.

SQ J on regional aircraft (which includes BNE) is not subject to restriction and is visible/bookable by US provided there is availability.

Depending on the time of year (I think) FCO is also operated by regional 777-200. At least it is at the moment. Perhaps when lmere was looking it's changed to 77W.

regional 772 to FCO is one I would avoid! Those old first-generation spacebeds are soooo uncomfortable :(

It was the 772 to FCO.

SIN - ICN on SQ600 A330-300 would also be regional then ?? Thinking of BNE - SIN - ICN - IST - ATH in J

Apologies for the slightly OT query but, Is there any website that summarizes (for any given airline) what aircraft is used on which route? That is assuming you don't look each flight up individually through the airlines booking engine.

It would be great to get an idea where these regional aircraft fly to...

Most people would say Seatguru...however I find it's often somewhat to very inaccurate (take TG 777s for instance). I don't think you can really be sure without checking seatmaps, airline schedules etc.

Yes 772, 773 (not ER), A333 are the regional aircraft. Some 777s still have the spacebed product...the website is coy about which.

Unfortunately it's best just to look up each airline's booking engine or timetable.

Subscription based GDS sites like ExpertFlyer or KVS might also give clues (because they can also access seat maps). And of course nothing can predict equipment swaps in advance.

My friend has completed the overnight transit on two occasions in the last 5 months heading to the USA. If the price is right, I'd recommend the Westin Chosun which is a designated bus stop for the airport bus ;) it is a long ride though - heavily dependent on traffic - but the coach is super comfortable 2-1 configuration with Y++ recline. I have did the overnight transit last year and that bus took about an hour and the Westin was perfect for me, as its only minutes to the night life, street stalls, food, restaurants, shops.

TG provide them ;)

lol - QF is one of the very few airlines with so few international business class pax it can afford to provide them :D

And then I read yours LOL

as a very general rule... regional aircraft are deployed on routes around 7 hours or less. so most of Asia ex sin will be on regional aircraft, except those flight originating in sin and flying to the USA via Asia.

for Australia, aside from syd and mel, most aircraft are regional.

for Europe, as a general rule, most aircraft are 'premium' with the odd exceptions such as fco and maybe ath.

worth checking the sq website, doing a dummy booking and seeing if it is a regional or 772 spacebed.
