I bet USAirways know exactly who shanye is on flyertalk, here and everywhere else you post and have been following your posts with extreme interest. Wouldn't be hard to work out for them.

This is very true dazz81. Is not hard to figure out as he has had some unique circumstances that have happened. I wouldn't be surprised if the 400k ROP got an escalation from Thai back to US Airways.

1. They came from my account . I brought them at the last 100% promo before this sharing one started. I also shared miles with my wife's account into mine.

2. I shared miles between all accounts and left it at that. I had shared the bonus so each of the family members received 50k maximum bonus. Using my credit card and my pc every time.

3. The recipient paid me the total of the miles / taxes / fees I had to pay for purchasing the miles.

I'm not sure why mel_traveller your asking me to write a letter when I told you I have sent many emails. The first one got a reply the rest nothing returned. Their reply I posted in my second post a few days ago.
Thank you for answering the questions. I think others have already responded regarding the answers so not much more that I can add at this point.

No he wasn't contacted he knows nothing . Only Paypal payment received . I have put in disputes on my credit card for the most recent transactions of my mums points sisters points and wife's . And also 4 lots of sharing . I also have some buyers protection on my 28 degree credit card if that helps .

This is opening more can of worms in my opinion. Since the transactions are now in dispute, I am sure US DM will advise your card provider their side of the story and it was because of abuse (or even fraud) of their USDM program that resulted in the termination of your accounts. The card provider may then decide that is not a risk worth taking given past allegations of abuse (or fraud) and terminate your card accounts.

Is there even a case? You pay points.com to share miles...points.com facilitated that transaction...the miles were credited. Separately US Airways closed the accounts due to fraudulent activity. I don't know?

The Fraud Divisions of FFP's have been known in the past to offer flight and/or cash incentives to people who bought tickets that were paid for in breach of the FF rules.

It is possible that this "friend" was in fact contacted by USDM and offered an alternative flight in exchange for his information and no doubt a confidentiality agreement.

I recall it happened previously in the States where people who had bought free 1st class tickets for life were selling them to unrelated parties.....

Of course there is also the possibility that this Shane character is in fact an employee of USDM and this whole saga is an attempt to frighten people into not breaking the rules....

I have to admit that I have been glued to this thread over last 2 days, my productivity has suffered immensely. It's got everything, intrigue, conspiracies, paranoia, the only thing missing so far would a love story between OP and sexy audit agent :)

Seriously though, I was OP I would have taken MEL_traveller's advice (or instead on legal advice spent my money on someone who would have written a letter on my behalf).

Also it is a significant loss, as Shanye said, $3000 for the ticket he booked that got cancelled plus 800,000 miles which if conservatively at $10 per 1,000 average cost buying them (could easily be higher as I don't think Shanye earnt any miles from flying) is another $8000 making a total of $11,000. That is two J return tickets to Europe right there.

$1000 for 100k more like $1886 for the 100k blocks I brought . Also my united account I can not access and I phoned them and asked what's happening the agent said not sure and has to contact the U.S And will get back to my via email .

Can of worms is being polite, claiming you never got what you paid for because you subsequently lost the item is FRAUD, a very clear case of fraud, and multiple claims will only serve to invite the interest of the authorities. Crazy stuff IMHO.

<redacted>

I also consulted a solicitor who told me they took a aggressive stance and should work out after my emails . So I have made another appointment on Tuesday obviously with a different fellow .

So mel_traveller are you surprised can you book me a flight .

Why bother? US DM has already indicated they will not respond to any further correspondence, you're just wasting money now.

are they the exact worded emails you received? because TBH it's poorly written and doesn't explain how or why they came to a decision. just saying that they did.

This is pretty common from Audit departments. There was a great thread on FT about someone who was contacted about his BAEC account. Anyway, he sent in a lot of detailed documentation proving no ill intent conduct, etc. and was cleared and accounts put back into service.

What should I do ? I brought something for family members that I did not receive . The day they cancelled my account I had charges pending from US airways. I have been nice I have written apologic letters and questioning why they have frozen my families account with no resolution . They have advised me of no future contact. I did the wrong thing they caught me I got penalties for it. I'm concerned about my entire family lost and I think a dispute with my credit card company can only help to communicate with us airways .

The only advise I have been given really is write a letter . Nothing more

It depends if he could explain to the credit card people the circumstances of the miles being taken away and whether the credit card people might agree that losing the miles from his account might be justified, but from all his families accounts is a bit heavy handed by US Air and as part of some buyer protection thing they would be willing to cancel those transactions and give him part of his money back...

I don't really think it was heavy handed...for the reasons already spelled out. Those other accounts were clearly operated solely by Shanye...in the case of the children, understandable, the others, far less so.

If charges were made for miles that never posted due to account closure then yes, those charges should be reversed.

US DM seem to be having issues with their website at the moment. Can't login (on one PC), and on another, that already shows as logged in, when you try to access account summary it gives an error saying the page cannot be found.

From what i have read in the enormous FT thread I don't expect there should be any issue with one person operating a family group of accounts provided they aren't being used as extra accounts for the one person. One way you can demonstrate the latter is not the case is by ensuring everyone uses their own DM balance to buy their own tickets rather than having several accounts just support the one flying person. Having every family member buy their own tickets and fly also demonstrates that they are in fact real people and not just your pet or some imaginary person.

Sorry Bozz, but I AM the OP of this thread, not Shayne! Please do not insult me!!!!

Sure the topics have changed over many posts, and I am not active in this compare to most others. In fact, I have not even redeem a single USDM flight yet. However, I am still the OP.

If anyone wants Shayne to be the OP, then spin the posts to a new thread. I am still the OP of this thread.

If I have my way, whoever has benefited from this thread should pay some kind of "gratitude fee" to the Edison Appreciation Society (non-tax deductible).

But of course, I also considered the repercussion of getting kicked out of AFF by all the mods, and closure of US DM accounts for possible breaching of T&Cs due to possible commercial benefits from their promos. So I decided not to do this, for the overall good of many here, who have surely enjoyed their F and J flying all over the world.

But Please! Please do not take away my special OP status of this thread! It is the special status that I can treasure without getting any commercial benefits!

Thank you for your consideration!

Rant over!

This promo was already being discussed at length on Flyertalk from late 2009. Plus a long accompanying thread on how to book star alliance awards was started in May 2007. your post did however bring some people with significant knowledge from FT over to here :)

My advice is to take up another hobby other than travel.

Hi MEL_Traveller,

I do not dispute that there is an existing FT thread about this since late 2009. But it does take a pioneer (me!) to bring the information across the Pacific (13.5 hours flight from LAX to SYD mind you!), and I did this early 2010 for the benefit of AFFers who are not FTers whom visit US DM forums regularly. Not everyone would be willing to do this, but I did.

Due to the benefits of this thread, there is also other threads (such as the "Successful redemptions" thread) that further benefits others.

So yes, I am not the original fountain of knowledge for this, and I never claim to be. Of course, I never really asked for any special treatment and favours from anyone here.

But to say Shayne as OP? That's where the line has been crossed! And I won't take this lightly!

Yes, it is a DYKWIA moment. But why not?! I did the hard yakka to type the first post on this thread afterall! Did Shayne do this?! No!

Remember, as a result of this, many people who had to suffer in Y for up 24 hours, now fly in J and/or F with comfort and luxury to Europe, North America and the rest of the world, as well as visiting all those F and J lounges!

So yes, I am the OP, OP = me !
