US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

$1000 for 100k more like $1886 for the 100k blocks I brought .

At the worst case if 100K cost $1886, then 800K equals $15,088 spent. Using a points earning card, you would receive, say 15,088 points.

Now you are sitting on 400K TG ROP points thanks to a complaint to TG following a mistake made by USDM for allowing you and the family to book TG F 77W BKK-CDG - which I will add was consequently resolved satisfactorily by USDM and thanks to alot of input on AFF members here. The family of four flew RTW in USDM a few months back, 13 sectors I believe, including two undercharged award amounts which I again believe saved you 67% of what the award charts lists.

Subtract, points potentially earnt via 2011's Grand Slam .... say 200K gross for all accounts - then you purchased 600K worth of points, and at a cost using 100% buy bonus rates, it is $11,316.00.

Now you have 11,316 credit card miles, 400K TG ROP miles (which can equate to 2.5 x australia to europe round trips in J / royal silk class) and 0 USDM points.

Now $11,316 is a lot of money but you still have 2.5 round trips to europe in J which is worth generally more than the monetary outlay. I'd be happy with what I have and move. You might have engaged a solicitor locally to give you advice (sure s/he suggests it was harsh but that's so you keep engaging with them) but remember where the US jurisdiction is and no doubt your solicitor will have to get an agent attorney in the USA, which will cost you. Good luck.

Sorry Bozz, but I AM the OP of this thread, not Shayne! Please do not insult me!!!!

Sure the topics have changed over many posts, and I am not active in this compare to most others. In fact, I have not even redeem a single USDM flight yet. However, I am still the OP.

If anyone wants Shayne to be the OP, then spin the posts to a new thread. I am still the OP of this thread.

If I have my way, whoever has benefited from this thread should pay some kind of "gratitude fee" to the Edison Appreciation Society (non-tax deductible).

But of course, I also considered the repercussion of getting kicked out of AFF by all the mods, and closure of US DM accounts for possible breaching of T&Cs due to possible commercial benefits from their promos. So I decided not to do this, for the overall good of many here, who have surely enjoyed their F and J flying all over the world.

But Please! Please do not take away my special OP status of this thread! It is the special status that I can treasure without getting any commercial benefits!

Thank you for your consideration!

Rant over!

Please accept my apologies, off course I didn't intend to insult you, if anything I should buy you a beer or two.

Dear BOZZ,

Apologies accepted. Maybe one day we can drink up when I actually get to go to those AFF meets.

I am having DYKWIA moment because I am not going to fly long distance anytime soon due to upcoming birth of Edison Junior (which I very much valued!). It is probably too troublesome to take Junior anywhere far away, and only to see everyone else here enjoy their J and F flights and go to all those lounges and drinking wines and having massages etc etc etc.

Cheers,

Edison

This is all too rational. You have to remember that while some of us love this offer and are happy to play along with the spirit of things...others are out there gaming & tricking the whole system to the nth degree...actually make that n to the power of x! If you're one of them this is a major own goal.

Sadly in the two years that I have been around here in USDM threads, I have only flown one redemption myself :( It was good times indeed.

Apart from that I have been spending some hard earned QF points including a OneWorld J award this past July and then some SQ KF points for my other European jaunts earlier this year when it was icy cold and the canals in Amsterdam were frozen over.

At 100% Buy Promotions, a business class return to anywhere in the world would cost no more than $2700 so that's more than enough for me to jump on the bandwagon but I didn't need to whilst I was sitting on some QF/SQ points that I should use, then pay cash for more points I didn't need.

My posts above was to Shayne, to suggest to him that even though he lost all of his USDM points it still isn't too bad and that he is up, ahead .... as if one is a gambler, they say, you should quit whilst your ahead ;)

Much the same! Actually, I'm currently 0. Have our first flight coming up April next year, looking forward to trying out TK and LH.

Hi MEL_Traveller,

I do not dispute that there is an existing FT thread about this since late 2009. But it does take a pioneer (me!) to bring the information across the Pacific (13.5 hours flight from LAX to SYD mind you!), and I did this early 2010 for the benefit of AFFers who are not FTers whom visit US DM forums regularly. Not everyone would be willing to do this, but I did.

Due to the benefits of this thread, there is also other threads (such as the "Successful redemptions" thread) that further benefits others.

So yes, I am not the original fountain of knowledge for this, and I never claim to be. Of course, I never really asked for any special treatment and favours from anyone here.

But to say Shayne as OP? That's where the line has been crossed! And I won't take this lightly!

Yes, it is a DYKWIA moment. But why not?! I did the hard yakka to type the first post on this thread afterall! Did Shayne do this?! No!

Remember, as a result of this, many people who had to suffer in Y for up 24 hours, now fly in J and/or F with comfort and luxury to Europe, North America and the rest of the world, as well as visiting all those F and J lounges!

So yes, I am the OP, OP = me !

I think your embarrassing yourself. One person Made a mistake saying I was the OP everyone knew what they meant. And IMO if your looking for gifts for things going right then what about when things go wrong.

rant over .

LOL, won't change anything, yeah right, your whole world changes including what you value in life (sleep, personal space etc etc), it makes you appreciate J or F so much more. It also makes you appreciate coming home.

I should probably clarify ;) What she meant, is it won't stop us from travelling... no clipping of wings!

perhaps I am ahead but not by as much as I should be considering everything. Still my family is way behind and for no reason shown to me. I have contacted the friend once again and he is more uneducated then me and has no idea what's going on. I am also having problems with my united log in never happened before. My TG account is still active so maybe it's a glitch . I would like to say that what happened to me could happened to anyone who redeems a ticket not in their name for a friend or relative or anyone. Those people or travel agents making thousands from innocent people I wonder why I'm caught out for one trip which never even happened.

Your family isn't way behind...they've lost access to some frequent flyer accounts they've probably never even personally logged on to, which contained points paid for with your money.

Hi Shayne2233,

I have not been looking much in this thread, but now I know exactly why you are not that well liked in AFF.

Don't worry, with my job, I have the ability to upset a lot of people, and also deal with a lot of flames from a lot of people. You won't be the first or the last.

I do hope you get back your points from US DM though.

Cheers,

Edison

shanyee - unfortunately because you don't have a good track record with USDM. That's the very simple answer.

You had run ins with them over your 11 segment ticket - calling almost every day - sometimes multiple times per day asking for routings you knew you weren't allowed (people advised you of that). You chose however to ignore those who told you to move on, and clung only to the few people who told you to keep calling. Basically you wasted a whole bunch of US reservations agents' time. Time costs money and causes delays for everyone else tryng to get through.

You got angry at USDM and Thai about not allowing the infant to fly in business class. Even though you got all four of you on Egyptair you still complained. (A big thank you should go to Egyptair for having seats available at one day's notice and aving yourwhole trip).

You have multiple accounts, at least one of which (you mother's) you were using for nothing but a vehicle to earn more miles than you were allowed to have.

You paid less than the required number of miles for one of your trips... 45K instead of 140 or 150K?? Did you tell them about the mistake and have them correct it? No. They would have had to pay the other airlines for those seats and you still kept your miles to use again (they were out of pocket!!)

You sold a ticket to someone else.

You earned miles via promotions you were expressly prohibited from earning miles through (the USDM search tool - the rules of which were expressly limited to residents of the USA and Canada or something).

There are so many reasons why they might have looked to close your account.

But what is done is done. I know you were very excited by the opportunities offered by these promotions, but there is a way to take advantage of these without going outside the rules. I think US has been very patient.

Any one of the above things I'm pretty sure US would have overlooked. But once you start to add them up they become an issue.

This is not a personal attack against you, this is just stating some of the issues. If you don't get any miles back, then maybe take away some of the lessons and apply them to your other dealings with the Intercontinental hotels best rate guarantee, or with other airlines as you buy miles there, or seek to have a status match, or seek lounge access you are not entitled to. Keep your head low and keep enjoying the possibilities! :)
