Now to figure out the best way to kill time in HKG between 2200 and 0950 the following day.

not a whole lot of options. The hotel attached to HKG airport can be very very expensive. But i think there is an Accor hotel about a 10 minute drive away which is much more reasonable.

20 years ago would be a no-brainer! Just go out and pull an all-nighter. I know I'm getting old(er) when I figure I'd much rather get some shut eye and enjoy the 1st class flight on the following day. :)

Sigh!

There's a Novotel at city gate/Tung Chung near the Ngong Ping cable cars. Plenty of buses that go that way.

The Novotel has it's own complimentary shuttle bus - it runs every 20 minutes IIRC (used it in January).

I'd say test your youth and pull the all-nighter. If you get F Lounge access (e.g. via status), return to the airport at earliest convenience (either when CX F Wing opens and/or when you are allowed to check-in) and stake out a cabana. I'd advise adding a serious alarm or wake up call, however.

On the other hand, I'd find a preferably close hotel and get the best sleep you can, but there's not a whole lot of time in it for you.

A slightly brutal connection, but what's life without a bit of a challenge?

Yes. The sense of adventure attempting to relive those former years is somewhat enticing too. ;)

I'm fairly certain CX don't offer F to MNL.

In that case, one passenger (not me, just hypothetically speaking) may not be very happy if they purchased the following ticket:

That's not the only date they have them available, too. The seat map also currently shows there is a suitably equipped aircraft ready to operate that route:

In any case, all of these intra-Asia flights are subject to last minute equipment shuffles (and inventory kerfuffles).

Hi Guys,

A little help needed, I currently have on hold: SYD-BNE-HKG-NRT-LAX (stop) -DFW-NYC (dest) -HKG-MEL-SYD (mixture of QF, AA, CX)

They are saying the NRT-LAX leg exceeds MPM. Availability is very scarce getting to the West Coast for 2 seats in J (it's for around the 21st March 2015)

Any other ideas on how to get to the West Coast or other itineraries?

Thanks in advance!

Is there nothing hkg-sfo/lax/yvr? If you don't need to stop west coast, there is hkg-dfw that had plenty of availability when I last looked.

Or perhaps aa Pvg-lax

bcworld will be able to comment - but I'm surprised they're taking MPM to LAX instead of JFK. LAX is just a stopover.

MPM to JFK is 14993 which would make your itinerary fine. But MPM SYD-LAX is just 11242, which is over with your current itinerary. (thanks to bcworld's chart)

The west coast is actually very tricky when it comes to MPM. If they were looking at just SYD-LAX you only have 11242 miles to play with. Guess what even SYD-HKG-LAX exceeds that:

[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.9 - Reference: Maximum Permitted Mileage [MPM]: SYD-HKG-LAX/US]
Code:
CTY DC TPM cough MPM DC SUR HGL LWL 25M XTRA
SYD 3
HKG 3 EH 4595 4595 5514 EH 0M 919 0 6892 0
LAX 1 PA 7249 [COLOR=#ff0000][B]11844[/B][/COLOR] 8994 PA EXC 0 602 11242 0

SYD-NRT-LAX works, if there are any options that way:

[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.9 - Reference: Maximum Permitted Mileage [MPM]: SYD-NRT-LAX/US]
Code:
CTY DC TPM cough MPM DC SUR HGL LWL 25M XTRA
SYD 3
TYO 3 EH 4863 4863 5835 EH 0M 972 0 7293 0
LAX 1 PA 5458 10321 8994 PA 15M 22 428 11242 0

However, I'd try again, as I think you'll find someone who'll use SYD-NYC MPM value which is much more generous.

Looks like MPM might be an issue worth discussing at the upcoming webinar? MPM can be very limiting with the currently available oneworld options to west-coast USA.

Really? I assume you mean on the AA flight that's just been launched? I just had a play in 2015 and found 1 date that had F availability for 2 pax, and only in one direction!
