Really? I assume you mean on the AA flight that's just been launched? I just had a play in 2015 and found 1 date that had F availability for 2 pax, and only in one direction!

Hmmm, apologies, it does seem to have gone. I was looking at J at the time but I swear I did see a few purple squares when I was looking.

FWIW, I do see a bit of space PVG-LAX around those dates going and coming back on AA. Doesn't really solve your issue if they keep coming back with MPM...

Thanks everyone, I tried all night but wasn't able to ticket it no matter which way I spun it. Spoke to around 7 different agents.

In the end I ticketed SYD-BNE-HKG (stop) -NYC (dest) -HKG-MEL-SYD

Will just have to do internal US flights separately.

that's still a pretty nice itinerary - J or F? CX/QF etc?

They are all in J. QF for the domestic legs then CX for BNE-HKG-NYC-HKG, QF for the final HKG-MEL

Yeah it should be good, just a shame as they will still go to the West Coast so a fair amount of backtracking. But in the end the hard products on Cathay will be much better than the AA product they were originally looking at to LA.

Just a newbie question; I just want to book simple SYD-LHR-SYD awards. So to keep things simple for myself, if I search on AA and it shows QF/BA availability, do I assume that USDM would see those seats?

That's a fair assumption. US will likely offer more options though as AA will not allow swapping between e.g. QF1 and QF9 at DXB...US would be fine with that.

Slight AAside...

Something really weird I've found searching AA online... if I plug in SYD-LHR, I can find a couple of options where, for example, I see QF1, but it is SYD-DXB on QF1 on a given day, then DXB-LHR on QF1 on the next day. This option displayed breaks three "rules": (1) the same flight cannot appear twice on an itinerary (i.e. QF1 split in two is not acceptable, it must be sold as a single SYD-LHR segment); (2) The time between two flights is greater than 24 hours (admittedly by a few hours), which is a stopover, which isn't necessarily allowed without extra mileage; and (3) This is South Pacific to Europe via Middle East, which again is not necessarily allowed without extra mileage.

Nevertheless, the option still appears to be priced at 80k AA miles.

I didn't select the option and get it priced out online, but it was odd to be presented with such an option.

Is it possible to include say a Jetstar or Dragonair sector into a multi sector USDM booking - or are all sectors restricted to actual members of OW?

I'm looking at booking myself & soon to be 21yr old for her b'day in May/June in J, CNS-HKG-NYC & YYC....
I think the ideal would be (CX) CNS-HKG-YVR (AC) YYC// -JFK . (CX) NYC-HKG-CNS. My ideal is not likely to work as nil avail HKG-YVR (ref: JAL website)
Does anyone have any opinion or advise of any other 'ideal' routes to search for or just aim to reverse it ? TIA

USDM won't get you on Air Canada. Will get you to Vancouver on CX. And even from YVR to JFK (on CX services). But otherwise you'd need to make own arrangements outside oneworld.

Is this a valid itinerary? Concerned about two stopovers on the way back

SYD - JFK (via HKG, no stopover, destination), JFK - LAX (stopover), LAX - HKG (stopover), HKG -SYD

It sounds like you already know it's not.

No it's not
Only ONE stopover or open jaw allowed.
You might also run into a problem with MPM for the SYD-HKG-JFK part. From memory it exceeds 25MPM. Might need to tweak it a bit changing SYD for BNE or JFK for ORD or similar

MPM for SYD-HKG-JFK would be absolutely fine, miles under, MPM to the east coast is much more flexible than the west.

thanks for the info - you're allowed one stopover per leg right? So I could stopover in HKG on the way there and LAX on the way back?
