1) If I fly SYD-BKK on TG F and then connect onto BKK-FRA on LH F, do I still get access to the TG F lounge? I assume yes as I'm flying F on a *A carrier, but thought it worth double checking

2) If I fly BKK-FRA on LH F and then FRA-CDG on LH J, do I get to use the F terminal? Car transfer to the FRA-CDG plane?

1. Yes, Royal First Lounge access but no spa treatment/buggy though.
2. No, you do not get the FCT when departing for intra-Europe J even if landing on LH F.

1. That's interesting - I could understand the no spa treatment story, and maybe the buggy too (but I can't remember the last time I was taken on a buggy from the lounge - I believe I never was, contrary to reports).
2. I've heard this is the opposite, but I can't confirm from personal experience. Maybe they've changed the rules.

Your experience may vary, I got the buggy arriving on F (when leaving on another partner J), about 6 weeks ago.

Ah you were referring to an arrival buggy. That I have received, but all my experience is when arriving in BKK on a partner airline connecting to TG F.

Sounds reasonable if you arrive on TG F you will get a buggy, irrespective of your next connection (then access to Royal First Lounge depends on other factors).

I was referring to a buggy when you leave the Royal First Lounge going to the gate. :) Then again, I may be just unlucky; I'll let myself out now.....

Yep you're right there - I rushed my response.

If arriving to BKK with TG F you will get the buggy [to wherever you need to get to eg lounge/immigration]. However the connecting LH F flight will only get you the First Lounge and no spa and no buggy to the plane.

W.R.T to FCT access, a friend who flew into FRA with LH F then connecting to LH intra-europe J could not access the FCT. That's my source, so YMMV.

That's absolutely correct. If doing in the reverse though e.g. LH J FRA-ZRH then LX F ZRH-JFK, then you do get access to the FCT in FRA.

Ah well, didn't know that - I thought some FT bloggers tried the "same day LH / LX F" trick to access the FCT on an arriving flight rather than an onward one.

I know about the latter case (the converse), as I've done that twice myself ;) :D

the FCT is primarily designed for departing pax only. even in the above scenario (arriving LH J connecting to LH F you will be directed to one of the FCLs.. if you are met at the plane by a car they will take you to the main terminal, not the FCT).

In practice you can walk to the FCT if you want, but there's not really much point given the lounges are broadly similar.

as for arriving in LH F and connecting to LH/LX/OS J... you could also theoretically walk your self to the FCT. Reports on FT say you won't be sent packing.

No, you misread. This is not arriving LH J. It's departing LH J from FRA, connecting to LX F in ZRH.

indeed yes (apologies for any confusion).

I was trying to add some clarity to some of the earlier responses regarding use of the FCT.

Thanks for the info everyone. Ended up running out of time to even think about changing to LH. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to suffer in the TG F cabin :-)

Has anyone recently tried changing cabin class for a single sector booked on a higher class itinerary?

I've just booked a BNE-oSIN-ICN-xSIN-SYD on J rates for 90k but just the ICN-SIN sector is booked in Y.

I have previously myself and heard plenty examples of other people calling up when availability opens up to rebook Y sectors in J (providing that the whole ticket was paid as J) but the common story nowdays is that they've tightened up on this and make you pay the change fee.

I had to call US twice for this transaction (one to hold the seats, one to ticket) and on both occasions, while the agents I spoke to were very good, they were both very clear that I'd have to pay the change fee.

I managed to do exactly this in May for travel in late July/early Aug.

Obviously YMMV and they may have tightened up now. I did have to call twice and was happy to pay the change fee for a class upgrade but it never came to that.

The worst will be when you see the buggy drive through the J lounge to the F lounge with F passengers grinning at you!

We flew SYD-BKK on TG J and then BKK-IST on TK J and we parked at the furthest gate from our connecting flight that we possibly could. We had a 75 minute connection in BKK, and our flight was on time but we literally spent 35 minutes walking from plane to plane. Every staff member we asked for directions and showed them our boarding passes looked at us with a panicked face saying 'hurry! hurry!' For some stupid reason the flight was listed as boarding 60 minutes before departure meaning it was boarding just about as soon as we got off the TG plane. We made it onto the plane about 30 minutes before scheduled take off when it was listed as 'final call'. We then sat on the plane for 20 minutes waiting for them to close the doors.

I didn't realise how massive BKK is until I had to walk the length of it.
