US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Should be good, would be interesting if someone posts what GUM is actually like given some of us are going there, it can't all be about the flights!

Yes, please do a trip report! My trips not till Jan.

Just got the following itinerary booked after 7 different phone calls (over two days) and around 3 hours on the phone in total.

(F) TG SYD-BKK (18 hour stopover)
(F) TG BKK-HKG
(Y) UA HKG-GUM (5 day stopover - but this leg in Y )
(J) UA GUM-HKG (18 hour stopover)
(J) TG HKG-BKK
(F) TG BKK-SYD

All for just 40,000 miles and $158USD (Agent: oh, the computer's decided not to charge you the $75 for booking within 21 days - me: what a terrible shame).

Departing within the next 7 days (unexpected leave opportunity).

Curious as to what happened with the other phone calls/ agents? Couldn't see availability? Refused routing?

Curious as to what happened with the other phone calls/ agents? Couldn't see availability? Refused routing?

The first five agents inputted my flights, verified that the seats were available, then said 'and I'll check just that that's legal' (some figured it out themselves, others called the ticketing desk), and I politely ended the call. Awkward moment when I got No 2 agent again on No 5 call.

No 6 call tried everything to get the computer to sign off that it was legal, spending 30 mins on the phone inputting various routings into the computer, and even tried to call the ticketing desk to convince them to ticket it anyways, but to no success.

Final call - explained my routing, agent verified seats were available (bar one J flight that was only showing as Y buckets available to the agent), calculated taxes and ticketed immediately.

Will most definitely do a trip report, stay tuned!

Thanks. I did not realise that it was an "illegal" routing even without any real(>24h) stopover in Asia.

Stopovers >245hrs aren't permitted on Asian flts?

Am currently on USDM web site and cannot find these T & C's - any pointers please?

Thanks bcworld - was going to call USDM Sat and book a redemption - your post has 100% clarified my query so should be straight forward now.

Now to a MEL-PEK flt next March.
Should be very straightforward IF you're happy with CA J??

Damn yes I meant CA.

Very wide range of opinions on CA. From MEL you get a flat bed...but it's a day flight. My friends flew MEL-PVG in June and were not impressed. Complaints on board mainly about food & beverage...only Chinese wine, no tonic loaded! *gasp* Where it really went wrong for them was when their flight was diverted due to weather and they and their onward itinerary were pretty much abandoned by CA.

On the other hand I booked my dad FRA-PEK-MEL on CA and he was happy with it. First time J traveller mind you.

Thanks mate, not too bad.

I'm thinking of booking flights for the mrs and then waiting for another seat to come available to book my own.

Worst case scenario is i have to cancel her flights if no other seats get released....

I've noticed a few routes with only 1 seat available (July 2014) would it be safe to assume some airlines release one at a time?
