Rules that we make and hope to get the right agent that will let it slide :)

The only rule that might get broken with a GUM itin is the no stopover in a single region rule. However it costs US nothing to break this rule because when they pay for an award ticket they pay per segment anyway.

SYD-CDG in F for 35k is clearly different although quite possibly US is still just squeezing out a gross profit on this as I bet the rates TG charges are very low!

I guess it depends how many miles you have left and what you want to do with them. 30K will take you to GUM in J which is fantastic value.
I don't know what I would do because most likely there won't be another bonus sale of USDM so points balance is important... But, on the other hand, how many times you will have the chance to upgrade to F for only 30K...?

Value dilemma, isn't it ?

Some bloke with more suitable routing would get all F sectors for an extra 30K (miles).

Here, it is only for one sector, explaining my initial hesitation.

Toss a coin ?

Most people (myself included) are booking GUM trips to visit other destinations in Asia. This itinerary should cost 90K-120K miles (J/F).
I'm just saying, lets not play innocent here while criticising others...

why wouldn't your friend do the right thing and tell US Airways about the mistake rather than keeping the points dishonestly?

I don't know if she ever told them or not but irrespective of that, I have another friend who did contact two times to alert USDM to a fare mistake and even speaking to different agents, both told her to not worry and said it would not be an issue. My friend whom is a lawyer wanted something in writing to confirm that her ticket was Ok (to protect herself in case of cancellation etc) however they said they wouldn't do so and repeated verbally that all would be fine. Short from cancelling the ticket (at her cost) and then rebooking at the correct level, I think the onus of her was discharged and despite spending time/money/effort to rectify USDM's mistake, they weren't interested to do so.

business class award travel will be in 'I' class. If you want to know for sure you can give OZ a quick call.

not sure if it's an Asiana only thing, but i just called to confirm based on your suggestion and she confirmed it is business. not sure why Z would be business class though. i can see that a Z fare class earns miles with Asiana - maybe i should pop my SQ number in and see if it works!

I don't like the sound of that unfortunately. You might need to do a bit of forensic work on this... if Z class is a paid class of travel (rather than award) it might not be supported by the ticket as a valid form of payment.

Just booked over Xmas:

MEL-BKK TG J
BKK-KIX TG F
KIX-GUM UA J (destination - 1 day)
GUM-TPE BR J
TPE-KUL BR J (stopover - 11 days)
KUL-BKK TG J
BKK-MEL TG J

40,000 points + $163 (taxes + charges)
Took less than 20 minutes, agent very efficient and asked no questions.
Figured buggy ride, 1 hour massage and Dom justify the extra 10,000 points....

provided you hold an eligible passport you have 72 hours transit without visa. Your itinerary meets the requirements.

so I previously thought i had been given a change to my itin without being charged, however after further investigation the changes had not been processed.
i did manage to call last night and get a second stop over for a euro trip for $150 each (change fee)

trip is now:
PER-SIN SQ J
SIN-CPH SQ J (3 night stop over)
CPH-CDG SK J (destination 18 nights)
CDG-ZRH LX J (16 hour stop)
ZRH-HKG LX J (2 night stop over)
HKG-SIN SQ J
SIN-PER SQ J

time to book the cook :O

Can you book SQ J using USDM?

When it is not operated by A380 or 77W aircraft.

And then subject to the same restrictions as everyone else...which means now only within 14 days of departure on Australia flights.

Can you book SQ J using USDM?

yes, you used to be able to (as bc said, excluding A380 and 77W)

but the SIN-CPH flight is a 772 with refitted seats (same seat as A380 and 77W anyway)

they changed it and now you can only book with SQ in J last minute (14 days out) with the exception of some intra asia routes

Confirmed the JRO booking last night

SYD BKK (TG F)
BKK IST (TK J)
IST JRO (TK J)

JRO ADD (ET Y)
ADD BKK (ET J)
BKK SYD (TG J)

160,000 pts + $USD211.81

Called Thai Airways, obtained their booking ref and managed to select seats on TG F (1A) and TG J (12A).

Emailed ET and got a reply confirming seat selection.

Q:

1) Where are the ticket numbers listed ? I could not see them anywhere. Are my booking considered "safe" now ?

2) What's your method of selecting seats on TK ?

3) The JRO ADD flight somehow is not listed in checkmytrip and also from TG MMB, but seen from USDM and from ET reservation office.

Should I be worried there ? What should/could I do ?

Many thanks, gurus

Without AFF, this would have been a pipe dream.

You can see them if you look up your reservation on the US Airways site.

This sounds quite normal. For my booking I posted last night none of the channels show all sectors. So if I look at the UA site using their reference I only see the sectors immediately before and after the UA ones. If I look at TG I see a different subset of sectors.
