US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Yeah I was thinking that.. but I've sort of done the whole french island thing (Bora Bora).. :D

Having just done New Caledonia on a USDM booking and previously done French Polynesia- New Caledonia is totally different. It's amazing especially the Isle of Pines and the mountains and East Coast of Grande Terre. 30K Australia to Noumea is a steal and if fact I'm thinking about booking another one before the merge

Nice to hear someone has been to both! I'll have to look into it.. I've got enough miles to cover the wife and I but getting 2 seats could be difficult I would imagine.

Sounds like looking up Noumea later in the year is my task for this weekend. :)

You may be surprised - I looked at NOU for Easter this year about 3 months ago and there were 2 J seats available on every flight. I dont think its quite as popular as people think it is. I dont think its a very popular honeymoon destination or a business destination.

The beauty of using USDM for this is its a completely legit itinerary - no issues with routing, MPM etc. The only obstacle is availability.

Had a quick look and there is plenty of space going over around MEL cup weekend but not coming back.

Also my wife is a teacher so better to find availability over the school hols... all part of the game!

p.s I even had a look at using my QFF points (~60,000) not even enough for a J ticket!! Might buy a toaster.

Sounds like a good plan. PM me if you need advice on where to stay/go etc. We went there at the end of December (around Christmas), the J cabin was full both ways. I don't think there will be any problem to book it though as when we were booking we could see lots of availability on AA website...it'll be even easier to book online when the programs merge.
I wish QF flew to more South Pacific destinations like Fiji or Samoa, it would be a great award redemption

I am going there in August for just over a week from PER via SYD so would be interested in what you would suggest. PM Sent.

Is QF best place to look?.

That is what I used. I had no problems finding flights with 2 x seats in J From PER to NOU via SYD or BNE on the QF site then just fed the dates and flight numbers to the USDM agent. Was all booked in about 15 minutes.

Excellent, we have 60 USDM left after recent Europe booking, will look into that.

Wonder if CNS/SYD/NOU or BNE/SYD/NOU return is possible?

That's an interesting idea as I've been wondering what to do with my last 30K miles. How do you get to Isles de Pines? I'd also like a PM plse. :p Does French Polynesia come under a 30 K redemption?

No need for a PM in this case - the only way to get to the Isle of Pines is on either an Air Caledonie ATR72 or a Betico boat and both involve paying hard cash for the pleasure. No points redemption
Flights to French Polynesia were indeed an award redemption but had nothing to do with USDM, this was a while ago when it only cost 30K of United points, it was easy to book on Air New Zealand. Now I think it's 50K return but Air New Zealand never release any J seats on the AKL-Papeete sector (mind you I think it's still operates by B767 with the old cradle seat)

You can use Kris Flyer and book NZ for 25K in Y. Rarely see any award J with NZ.

I found reward flts on QF SYD J to both NOU and Papeete, but the later says can only be a classic reward, so presumedly USDM can see them too - this was for July. What did people think of the accommodation quality and price on New Caledonia?

AFAICT QF (or any oneworld airline for that matter) do not operate a flight to Papeete (PPT). QF, I believe, have codeshare agreements to PPT with Air Tahiti Nui, but they are not a oneworld member.

Therefore, US DM can't be used to fly to PPT using the oneworld member airlines.
