My simple routing gives me routing envy but it is just for the weekend so direct is best:

SYD - NRT JAL J.
NRT - SYD JAL J.

90000 and $100 taxes each, booked for May.

Saw previous discussion about not being able to book JAL more than three months but was appearing on BA and the award chart didn't seem to mention it. These bookings are more than 3 months (just).

domestic (90 days) vs international (~335 days or whatever).

I actually don't think the JL booking issue is anything. The 2 agents that made this comment to me did not want to really assist with the whole redemption anyway. I am just surprised that someone else was told the same sort of story. Anyway in the end it is ticketed now and and I guess that resolves the agents' incorrect comments.

Another booking made for FTU.

HKG-KIX-LAX-DFW / DFW-LAX-NRT-HKG
on a mix of JL/CX/AA. Can't wait to try JAL 787!

110K + 700 bucks. Taxes seem high.. unsure why. Haven't got the breakdown yet.

That does seem unusually high. No carriers there with fuel surcharges that I am aware of, and the airports traversed don't charge that much. Will be interesting to see the fare breakdown once you get the e-tickets.

Booked for Christmas this year - planning to spend it at an All Inclusive in Cancun! Below flights are just for 1 person.

SYD>PVG (QF J) 20 hour layover
PVG > NRT (JL J)
HND > SFO ( JL J) 23 hour layover
SFO > DFW (AA J)
//
LGA > DFW (AA J)
DFW > SFO ( AA J)
SFO >HND ( JL F) 17 hour layover
HND > SYD (QF J)

I really wanted to get the transcon F product on AA for the JFK>SFO leg but they completely blocked all awards for the few days after New Years. Every other day 6++ flights available in F!!
125,000 miles + $163.64 in taxes + $50 phone booking fee

Shouldn't it only be 110,000 miles?

With a long haul F segment? No.

It's good to see they have averaged the price though, which was a question that came up the other day: (110,000 + 140,000)/2 = 125000 looks good to me!

F segment pushed it to 125,000 miles (.5 x 110000 + .5 x 140000)

It's looking ok as an itinerary - if there are any changes once this goes from USDM to AA it should still be ok - simple time changes rather than needing a reissue. Good itinerary!

2 pax in J Sydney-Perth return in Dec15/Jan16, 5 minutes on the phone
30K points each and $24USD in taxes each

This is in conjunction with my booking yesterday on Lifemiles Perth-JNB-GRU on South African Airways which was supposed to be done via USDM as well for 120K USDM each but lo and behold SAA isn't a partner anymore...there are only two other partners left, Hawaiian and Jet Airways, USDM have obviously completely aligned themselves with AAdvantage in that they got rid of all non-AAdvantage partners

After a few long phone calls I finally got this confirmed on Saturday:

PER-DOH-FRA-TXL//SAW-DOH-KUL-PER.

120k pts and about US$180 taxes and booking fees.

Initally the offered CX and BA but the taxes were an eye watering US$830 each. DOH-FRA in in the new QR A350, last legs (FRA-TXL and KUL-PER) are in Y as AB only offering Y cabin on the flight and no availabilty on MH in J. All in all, pretty happy.

Booked last night for 2:

PER-DOH-GRU (destination)-DOH-PER on QR in J.

120kpts and taxes of $109.93+$50 booking fee.

Took a bit of time when it had gone to the rates desk as they were apparently checking whether or not it was a valid routing.

see you're from SYD - would adding SYD-PER take it over MPM or something?

After some hours and multiple calls I secured the following

MEL - HKG (CX J)
HKG - JFK (CX J) (dest)
JFK - LHR (AA J)
LHR - DXB (QF J)
DXB - MEL (QF J)

I started with the outgoing flights on the dates I wanted and booked return flights as dummy's. I booked JFK-HKG-MEL as the return flights. Everything ticketed, fast forward a month and managed to change return flights to JFK-LHR-DXB-MEL on dates I wanted.

Cost of taxes and fees? I'm guessing you had to pay the $150 change (redeposit miles) fee?

Initially it was 110,000 points and (all in $US) $101.20 taxes + $50 booking fee + $150 change fee + $61.08 extra taxes each

Oh and the whole booking was for 2 people

Awesome!
Which MEL-HKG flight did you get?
174/134/104?
I was looking at CX J out of Australia and from my initial searches, it seems the night flights are harder for award availability...
