Interestingly, when I input my booking reference number into the QR manage my booking section I get the full itinery, and the breakdown of charges is as follows:

...
Taxes and Carrierimposed
Fees 50.96 AU, USD 5.72 WG, USD 29.71 WY, USD 323.28 GB, USD 72.90 UB

Good tip on the QR site to get this breakdown.

Aaaah...there's the remainder of your high taxes/fees thing - UB, or UK Passenger Service Charge. Not as hefty as APD, but still damn expensive!

Hi guys,

I felt the need to make a booking before AA/US make any more "enhancements" to their FF programs.

PER-SYD (Qantas J)
SYD-DXB (Qantas F) - Destination
DXB-HKG (Cathay J) - Stopover
HKG-PER (Cathay J)

Quite a simple itinerary, but I somewhat feel 150 000 points each is a bit expensive when I could go to Europe/USA for the same points. Unfortunately this time round I can only get 2 weeks off work, so this will have to do for a little break in January!

Taxes/extra charges was $387.20 USD for 2 passengers.

All in all I'm pretty happy with the itinerary. Could be the very last time I can enjoy Qantas J on an A380!

Ba can also show space but you need to have a BAEC account to search and you can't open one with an Aussie address. I opened one using a friends uk address.

Both BA and Qantas show phantom CX space, or space that US (or AA) will not see. JL is the definitive method for CX.

What, better than AsiaMiles?

Definitely. For the reasons already mentioned.

The other week when I was trying to book CX using AA miles, CX, BA and QF were all showing 2 seats in J. AA could see none, JL could see none.

Hi BCWorld, what search engine do you suggest to use to look for award flights for OW and not the old Star Alliance network? At this stage I don't really mind who I travel with (using my USAir points), I am just wanting to get an idea of what is around and avaliable so I can start thinking about where I want to go.

Don't look at Asia Miles for CX availability.

I would say essentially British Airways online...I'm sure you can rustle up an Italian address ;) to use as Australian sign up is I think still not allowed.

But at this stage, don't use BA for CX availability...use JAL mileage bank.

Wonderful, will follow up on all your suggestions

Anyone got any suggestions on good search engine for LAN?
BA or QF are your only options.

Maybe we can put this one to bed before some asks which is the best search engine for S7 siberian airlines!

Use JAL for CX...use BA or QF for everything else!

Caved in?

Shame you couldn't get J for the Australian legs. But it looks like you got a "discount".
