I'm showing taxes and APD to be GBP 44 and GBP194 respectively. So something wrong there...

I think Thailand just scrapes into band C and therefore GBP170 in APD (I don't think transiting KUL will trigger band D?) but the taxes calculation is still way off.

my bad - I didn't even think about that... just used ITA to calculate LHR-KUL.
 
I just booked the following for June 2015:

MEL-HKG QF J
HKG-JFK CX J
EWR-HKG CX J
HKG-MEL CX J

110k miles
$122 in taxes + $50 booking fee.

The JAL availability tool was excellent. Sometimes agents couldn't find particular flights (when they seemed to be married segments) but I HUACA.

Overall I was surprised at the limited availability MEL-HKG but there were still plenty of options if I was flexible with dates.
 
I've just booked a BKK-LHR return for next month, simple you might think, but jeez it was hard yakka; five calls over two days totalling nearly three hours, during which time one my first options became unavailable.

After several false starts I finally got BKK-HKG-LHR (CX) and LHR-KUL-BKK (MH) ticketed, with the long sectors in F.
Having said that, the final KUL-BKK sector has now disappeared from the itinerary. Yet another call had them assuring me that it's still OK, but i've emailed seeking written confirmation. Worst case, I'll just make my own way from KUL.

Pleasantly surprised though that the taxes only amounted to $219, I expected the UK APD alone would be much higher than that.

I'd be checking with CX and MH whether they can see your e-ticket number with their PNR confirmations once your US tickets are formally issued. Seems odd.

Booked MEL-DXB-LHR on QF in First Class, departing November 12 and coming back on Christmas day. 150K points, taxes were US$490 or so IIRC. Heading over to the NYC on US Airways in discount economy for a couple of weeks in the middle - I suspect they'll be a slight contrast between the two services....:lol:

Just an update; the itinerary is still a dog's breakfast, but I'm comfortable it's all OK.

CX and CMT show only flights 1&2 - that's as expected.
US Air still shows only flights 1,2 & 3 and so far no reply to my email.
MH website shows nothing at all, but the mobile app has flights 2, 3 & 4.

But thanks to a tip gleaned from FT, I was able to access the full itinerary from the Saudia website, of all places.
It also has the fare calculation:

This is economy class UK APD to Thailand quoted in USD...check your booking carefully!

As for Saudia...it'd definitely a good resource, but it's not perfect. I had a ticket on there that looked absolutely fine even though a segment was no longer operating on the day shown.
 
Taking the advice and checking my bookings yet again, I see that my May 2015 50 mins domestic flt seems to be Ok except that it says it's a 7h flight. ALSO, it shows it as the 2nd flight instead of the 1st sector.

On hold on Skype now for > 1 hour 30 mins to check the bkg. At least now I can see the bkg on US site, as for some time it was not possible to check it on the US site at all.

Great work on the F tickets. Just a quick question though why didn't you include the LHR-NYC-LHR in your USDM booking? Could of had LHR as the stopover and NYC as the destination, may have even worked out at 140,000 miles if you got lucky!
 
The tedious story of not being able to see US website booking continues. It is completely unavailable again now after one day of being able to see it, showing the first 2 sectors reversed.

QF adv that they can see the whole ticket number with the sectors, but on the QF site the AA JFK-SFO is missing. Should I be worried (or learn to love the war)?

It depends on what the flight is after the JFK-SFO. If it is an immediate connection to a QF flight it should show. If there is a stopover, no reason for it to show.
 
Ok thanks, what you say IS the case. If only at laest the US site would just show all the flights in the correct order.

connecting flights generally show for two reasons: (a) to show where you have come from (in case your flight is running late, the connecting airline knows to expect you/make alternative arrangements, and (b) so that at check-in, the agent knows how far they need to tag you bags. in your case, the agent at JFK would need to tag the bags no further than lax, and QF dun need to know if you're gonna be late (because it's the day before). if you were immediately connecting, QF would show the flights.

Thanks, good advice as it turns out, but hopefully I now have it sorted.

After nine days US replied to my email, saying that the final KUL-BKK sector was indeed not confirmed and that I had to call again.
Called back this evening and was able to route KUL-HKG-BKK with CX. It adds five hours to the trip but I'm OK with that.

The long sectors to/from LHR are definitely in F.
