US election 2020

I have decided I am in a win win situation here. If Trump loses then that awful man moves on and possibly the USA can start healing. If he wins then Master FM will request a transfer and I would prefer him out of the states anyway, where he is less likely to be mown down in some mass shooting.

Although Trump, as a person, and as a "cause" disgusts me, I really get his popularity. He is both "fun" and also has some ideas that gel with a huge percentage of the US populace. Part of the human condition is to want to be part of a pack, a group. So much more exciting for many to ride with him as just following the muddy and often inconsistent moral crusade of the democrats. A "party" who have shown themselves to be about as moralistic as catholic priests...

We are lucky, in a perverse way, to be witness to what continually happens in the USA. A great nation, many aspects of which are very admirable. But also rotten to the core.

Welcome back, juddles.

Here's a quiz for everyone. (I genuinely have no idea - and am curious)

What are the top 3 accomplishments Biden/Trump has achieved?

Debates have been announced:

US President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden will go head-to-head in three debates prior to the US election.

There is also one debate scheduled for their vice-presidential candidates, Mike Pence and Kamala Harris.

When are the Trump v Biden debates - and who are the moderators?
Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace will host the first presidential debate on 29 September, in Cleveland.

Miami will be the host city for the second, a town-hall style debate on 15 October, moderated by C-SPAN's Steve Scully.

NBC's Kristen Welker will host the final presidential debate on 22 October in Nashville.

The sole vice-presidential debate, between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Mike Pence, will be in Salt Lake City, Utah on 7 October, moderated by USA Today Washington Bureau chief Susan Page.

All of the debates are scheduled to take place from 21:00-22:30ET (02:00-03:30GMT) with no commercial interruptions.

I have no idea either.

Are you talking accomplishments whilst they have been holding public office, or do you also include business accomplishments (i.e. before Trump came to the presidency)?

Uh-Oh predicting two "nasty women" tweets coming up ;)

While in office.

Biden has been around for 40+years.
Trump for 3 years.

I'd expect Biden to have a long list of accomplishments compared to Trump.
When I search online - it seems like Biden hasn't done a lot and Trump outperforms.

Finding it rather incredulous that the elected leader of a democracy would be loudly and publically requesting electors to fraudulently vote more than once in the upcoming presidential election.

Interesting possibility....

There is also an article claiming Trump encouraging voters to try to vote twice, one in person and another by mail.

For Biden, like most political figures it seems few pros and cons. A long career mainly as a contributor rather than a leader/doer. With such a long career things that were considered appropriate in some periods of time have changed markedly in recent years. Been caught out being loose with the truth on some occasions like every politician I know but not in the same league (universe?) as his opponent. Seems like an average but not inspiring decent person with some human frailties.

Some irrelevant cough in this listing but also some interesting stuff.

I've been working a lot less than 47 years, and yet my list of achievements appears longer than Bidens.
I don't see why you wouldn't judge someone based on their successes --- rather than 'so and so is a bad person.

Totally agree. Need to look at real successes (not boastful claimed fantasies) on both sides.

However even if there are some successes the negatives and ability to solve or resolve problems from that office (not previous positions) that need sorting are probably just as important.

When put in the stark reality of a "Trump vs Biden" perspective, I feel no hope. What America needs right now is for an unbelievably great, true leader. This would help the whole world, given the USA's influence on so many things. But Trump has lost the plot. And as for Biden, history shows that an american presidency is the biggest accelerator of human aging that exists. He just doesn't have the margin...

It’s Trump - nothing he does should surprise you.... this is a man who tweets support for Qanon in the middle of a pandemic

Well similar to 2016, most of the populace didn't have anyone inspiring to do the job and almost half didn't bother to vote. As a consequence they are in a diabolical mess with someone who has no concept of how to handle an emergency let alone deal with any matters in a legal, honest or moral way. If he gets re-elected their democracy and stability of the world in general is in serious jeopardy.

The alternative is a rather lack lustre follower type who won't really inspire anything great but is possibly useful as a healer/unifier and potentially bring some stability back using trusted advisers (including his previous boss) and let the people who normally keep the cogs turning (the public service) to get on with the job.

A possibility which could potentially be better for the country would be for Biden to get in but pass on early in his term leaving time for Kamala to make her mark. While a bit untried in that theatre, seems far more competent than the other three combined (Trump, Biden, Pence)

The alternative of Pence in the chair is too horrid to contemplate.

BTW there is only three 3 years difference between the two contenders and only one is currently showing early signs of dementia.

As always YMMV

Time to turn off your mainstream media brainwashing devices.

I think nothing illustrates the mainstream media “fake news” (but also Trumps deficiencies) better than “bleachgate” (not sure if that terms been used before).

Anyways, I scream at the screen everytime I hear someone say “Trump suggested people go and ingest bleach” He didn’t. He asked that the scientists to look at bleach (and UV rays) as potential ways of treating COVID. Now whilst its good to have a inquisitive president open to new solutions, it also demonstrated a very basic lack of understanding of science, and perhaps an error in judgment talking about it publicly. But there’s a big difference between suggesting Scientists look at it and people start using it. (IIRC the phrase he used was “we should look into that” or something similar).

By the way, I’ve looked at enough Trump speeches and pressers - and worst of all his tweets - to form my own negative opinion of what the guy stands for, but you can also see how the media (both the pro and anti Trump media) manipulate what he is saying and doing to further their own agenda.
