US election 2020

Interesting take....

Murdoch print media hails Trump acceptance speech as “ Trump nails the moment with a showstopper” yet even sycophantic Fox News describes it as “underwhelming”.

Sounds like divorce proceedings with Fox (except for some very notable favoured loonies) is advancing. There must be some more money and favours on the table if Murdoch is in promote mode.

For what its worth, some themes that are developing after the RNC:
  • Suppress the mail vote (promote mail-fraud) - more Republicans will vote in person with Democrats preferring mail-in or absentee due to Covid.
  • Pandemic has passed - let's move on - vaccine is here (or coming) by November
  • Target Black Men - strong leadership - Law and Order - does the truth matter anymore?
  • Target Suburban Housewives - Law and Order but not necessarily the same message
  • Obviously, just target a dozen or so swing states - there will be so many wasted votes on the East and West Coast.
So don't follow the nationwide polls; just any measuring Swing States although there are many polls but not many just focusing on selected States.

Too close to call; but its a long way to November. Biden must get out more, stay on message and, at least match Trump in the debates to have a chance.

yes, yes, yes

Traditionally it’s conservatives who vote mail-in..... postal votes in Australia are knowN To favour LNP - civic duty, avoid a fine, avoid the rush, yadda yadda...

I thought these days it’s pretty even. All the ‘progressives’ will be at Byron or Noosa ....

The right wing law and order evangelist appealing president is starting the war that some thought he would. Very sad what is going to happen in America between now and the election and difficult to see how it will be fixed no matter who wins.
This tension has always been there somewhat under the surface but now brought up for various reasons and sure to get worse.
Trump is throwing America under the bus.

Both choices appear to offer chaos and disintegrating social and economic order , perhaps trump trumps biden with added bloodshed…..

While I'm not necessarily an ardent Biden fan, the big difference for me is that he will a) surround himself with good people and b) will listen to them. Whereas Trump has seen a steady stream of people leaving, generally because they become disillusioned with his inability to listen to reason and is basically just left with a bunch of sycophants who only tell him what he wants to hear.

Sounds weird in our post modern world but I'm just hungering for a fact/evidence based presidency.

It would be good to have a leader that as a minimum does not support encouraging violent behaviour and threats as being the solution to electoral success (and that's not just the US. Some disturbing changes around the world)

I say too many people take too much from the polls... they do get weird results at times... look at 2016 with Hilary for example... USA elections are a long race and the polls do fluctuate between now and Election Day in November

Does anyone else get a sense that things are swinging towards Trump? Horrible thought.....

Emphatically, unfortunately. You've got to give him his dues - he tells a great story. All he has to do is to scare enough people into thinking that democrats are coming after their homes, jobs, guns, religious rights and health care, and he's got it in the bag.

I was listening to analysis of mainstream media reporting describing how Biden risk being derailed by the "far left's" radical policies (eg universal health care).

In fairness, he's probably not aware of what's going on anyway.
Poor guy. Time to rest up and enjoy those final years.

Yes agree, anything not far right of centre now is called radical socialist left and is therefore bordering on communism.
It’s pretty unbelievable that so many people can be so simply impressionable.

Again the MSM is quite biased as is Social Media.
Pelosi can say this on twitter.

But a satirical right wing group gets banned for this.

And unfortunately in the last 3 months many have been killed in the "peaceful" protest. And mainly black and too often children.

Yes but let's see the post convention polls

The polls in general that indicate how the nation is feeling it seems are largely irrelevant. (and as in 2016 don't indicate who will take office).

Allegedly, the only things that matter are the people at the margins in 5 key states and whether they bother to partake in the process.

Perhaps when the feeling are mild, then it might not draw people to vote.

Last election Trump did enough to get voters that support him to turnout (and in enough of the right States), presumably obtaining sufficient more than mild feelings to win.

i think in this part of the election cycle feelings are much more passionate on both sides, whether it’s enough to tip the election one way or another time will tell. There is enough time for either nominee to win.
