I received the double points offer but am still waiting for the 500 bonus points to come through from the previous offer I received in December.

Chase it now. I just asked about missing bonus points from November and the reply was that all bonus points have been allocated and it's too late!

Both myself and wife registered for emails but nothing received. Will stick to Coles if BP/Velocity cannot be bothered sending emails.

I've rechecked the offer email and the Ts & Cs state: " Members should allow up to 5 weeks after 24 December 2015 for the Bonus Points to be allocated" which would take it to this Thursday (28th Jan). Hmmm ... given your experience, I might contact them now just in case!

I doubt that these double, triple, 500 point offers are the 'big announcement'

They're generally the most expensive fuel in town...perhaps they're just going to come down to earth.

Personally I think this depends a lot on where you live. In fact have noticed in my area they seem to vary a lot. Nearest station is BP and is 116.9 there, not cheap. But 600m away there another BP at 105.9, cheapest in the area when others are 108.9 and 109.9. So that makes them both cheapest and most expensive and not the first time I have noticed this.

BP only adjust their prices downwards if their competitors nearby are substantially cheaper.
BP are certainly not the price leaders in the fuel industry.

Today I drove ~87km to Central Coast and then drove back the same way. The E10 fuel ranged from 98.9c to 110.9c with most at 99.9c. An independent was the highest and only encountered 1 BP along the way and that was 107.9c which is not awful. Noticed Coles Express was 102.4c and most Caltex was 99.9c.

Closer to home Budget Petrol is 93.9c for E10 and the BP ~200 metres away is 99.9c. I stopped to get some fuel and the 91 unleaded at BP was 112.9c which is a joke. Again another Budget Petrol ~200 metres up the road and 91 Unleaded was 101.9c so purchased $50 there.

I really don't need the points that badly.

It's weird how I'm seeing a lot of people complain about BP's higher prices - in SA, they are the same price as other servos, if not lower.

I've seen the two Shell stations on Pennant Hills Road at Pennant Hills have fuel prices 20c apart at times.

BP seems to be the same price as everyone else along that section of road which is more than most of the areas around Sydney.

I emailed Velocity and received a pretty "generic" answer in the vein of: The 500 bonus points will be allocated to your account five weeks after 24 December 2015 provided you successfully activated the offer and completed an eligible transaction within the promotion period, and of course the offer is exclusive to the recipient of the promotional email and is not transferrable. **sigh** Yes I activated the offer the day I received the email, yes I made an eligible transaction the following day and YES I was the one who received the email and I activated the offer on MY account. If I hadn't done all that, then WHY would I be asking about the bonus points? And should it really take 5 weeks for these to go through? As that time period is up on Thursday and nothing yet, I'm making a guess that I'll have to make a phone call early next week and chase it all up further.

Update: I just received an email a few minutes ago from Velocity headed "Your points have arrived from BP" - yippee, I thought, the bonus points have come through. Nope, it was just an email confirming that the base points from my fuel purchase on Sunday (under the current double points promotion) were now in my account - yes I know, they were there yesterday ... never mind that, I want my bonus points!!!!

The idea that chasing up an advertised offer is even required is itself problematic, but does not bode well for further developments of the partnership!

To use an analogy, one does not agree to buy a house before they've inspected it very thoroughly!

There have been many replies to this thread focusing on local pricing for fuel - of course that's a factor in whether one purchases fuel from BP.

For those observing that BP isn't a reasonable purchase option for them, have you written to Velocity to indicate this?

If you have, excellent! If you haven't, please do.

For those who are citing issues in this regard, what "big announcement" would manage to overcome your current concerns?

Very good question.

I completely agree about communicating your concerns with Velocity. I know the response is always rather lacklustre, but it's the only way to make change.

Agree with mrsmart - this is a great question.

Discounted fuel that at the very least matches Caltex+Woolies Rewards prices would be the clincher!

It certainly doesn't! However on this occasion I am pleased to say that the 500 bonus points came through on my account late yesterday, right on the 5-week mark - so at least that saves me a phone call!

This past week my local BP has been 10 cents higher than all the other local servos

This week I am going to have to give them a miss as they just can't keep up

Have you written to Velocity about this?

What influence would Velocity have over the price of fuel at BP?

Just looking at the two companies, VA Holdings has a market cap of $1.729B, and made a loss of $353.8M for the 2014 year. Meanwhile BP has a market cap of $99B and made a profit of $4.003B in the 2014 year. I wouldn't imagine that gives VA much bargaining power or influence :p

I didn't say that Velocity would have any influence on the price of fuel at any particular BP outlet.

The fact that Velocity's CEO has made big statements about the BP partnership shows that it's a priority for Velocity, yet if the current arrangement isn't of benefit to Velocity members for whatever reason surely it's worth giving that feedback.
