VA & BP big announcment?

I didn't say that Velocity would have any influence on the price of fuel at any particular BP outlet.

The fact that Velocity's CEO has made big statements about the BP partnership shows that it's a priority for Velocity, yet if the current arrangement isn't of benefit to Velocity members for whatever reason surely it's worth giving that feedback.

Fair point ;)

Fair point ;)

About time I made a reasonable point! ;)

If statements are going to be made about the partnership being the best of the various options, that surely needs to be a holistic statement.

In my case, the convenience of the nearest option for fuel being a BP outlet coupled with them being a good option if I need something on the way to the tram to work and them participating in the American Express Local Champion program means that I don't see value in saving less than a dollar when filling up.

I drove out to Rosewood Saturday and Parkwood on Sunday. Every BP was either 127.9c/L or 129.9c/L. The Coles express at Brisbane airport was 109.9c/L. Most service stations at Gold Coast had fuel for 99.9c/L.

Did I miss a BP that was competitive?

Yes, same in PER as a general rule - up to 30c/litre difference. I don't know how they are staying in business.

Luckily about once a week or 10 days or so a couple of select stations drop their price to be in the top 10 of fuel watch across the city which hasn't happened for years upon years - so someone is paying attention and trying something ... just not sure what as its not very consistent.

Weird. Around here they are almost always exactly the same price as the others. At worst 1c more expensive.

I wish. I'd wear that with the VA points gathering.

BP stations here are generally cleaner, with the machines in better working order and I have a weird unexplainable impression that their fuel is better too - hard to prove without a long term detailed study of fuel economy and general fuel related issues though.

Filled up yesterday. Shell about 2km away I drove past on my way home was 99.9c without discount. BP was $1.029 so 3c/L more.

Massive queue at the Shell. No queue at the BP (both on main roads, but very different setups/roads). Typically it's around 2-4c/L more than other Caltex/Shell outlets in my area.

A decent (big) announcement would be for Velocity points to be linked to fuel dollar spend (rather than litres).

Absolutely crazy that 40L of PULP98 earns same points as 40L of ULP91 given the approx 25% price difference.

Same here - I'd prefer to go to our nearest BP, the family who run it are lovely people and much as I'd love to support them and give them my business, I simply can't afford to pay anywhere between 10c-30c more per litre for fuel compared to the local Caltex Woolworths/Coles Express prices.

Too right. I have an old clunker (pre ULP) that I only put PULP in

Effectively the current earn is well above 1 point / dollar, which is quite a lot better than the competing schemes. Given the margins on fuel are per litre, I don't think it's reasonable to see that happening.

Who fills their car to the next litre now just to get those additional two points? When it clicks off at 45.08 litres it can be hard to squeeze the additional 920mL without overflowing (which isn't recommended!)

Ha ha, me! It's pathetic I know, but I always go to the next litre after it clicks. But hey, maybe one day I'll book a first class ticket with 2 points to spare and I'll say, it was all worth it!!!;)

Why? The points are rounded up to nearest point. I forget the tipping point but something like 11.25L should earn 23 points.

It seems the results from buying BP vary by the city/suburb and state you are in. In Victoria BP seems to be a better option than in some other states.
There are 3 BP stations within 2km of me that are always price competitive. In addition the margin between 91ULP and 98ULP is 16 cents, compared to 17 cents at Woolworths.
And I do find BP stations do be newer and cleaner that Woolworths.

Failed for me at least once.

Put approx .50 or .51 litres extra, the points stayed the same :(

Yes I haven't ever seen it round up. Mind you if I always go up I'll never see it.

Warks, I'm told that BP rounds up from the half-litre: so in the above example you could hit 44.51 litres and that'd count as 45 litres. :P

I'll try that next time. Thanks.

I was driving south through southern Sydney yesterday and saw fuel as cheap as 95.3 at various independents. Caltex and BP were about 98.9 but the killer was Shell sitting there at 118.9! People were still getting fuel there too right next door to the cheapest stations. Not many I'll admit.
So Shell was the uncompetitive one.

There's an indie down Lane Cove Road in Sydney with vert keen prices, certainly makes you think twice about stumping for points.
