Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

Also in NZ (dual citizen) and have had 2 jabs of Pfizer (near CHC). First in mid June and second 3 weeks later. A little surprised to get an invite, as only interaction with NZ Health for decades has been 2 visits to a GP 10 years apart for a truck license medical renewal and 2 weeks in NZ MIQ (quarantine) last year.
It is apparently possible to have the NZ vaccination uploaded to AU Mygov medicare system. Looking into that now.
This morning I took my elderly grandmother to get her second Pfizer dose in Auckland. I was just going with her to help her out, but when I got there they asked me if I would like to be vaccinated as well. I explained that I'm an Australian citizen, but they said that would be OK and even got me registered in NZ with an NHI number on the spot. So I went in with my grandmother, we both got vaccinated and I now have an appointment for the second dose in 3 weeks.

Very happy!

Was on a Teams call this morning, and one participant was on the phone. Realised he was in the car and asked where he was going - it was for his first pfizer jab in Canberra!

Thanks. I assumed it must be possible, but hadn't look into this yet because I wasn't planning to get vaccinated today!

Second AZ today and I am wondering if I have been given 2 placebo shots as I have not experienced a single side effect (first or second). That been said my ICV has both stickers and signed, I have also the vacineen record in the apple wallet.

Some people don't have any side effects from vaccination. It's not unusual.

Remember that even some unvaccinated people that catch COVID-19 are asymptomatic i.e. they don't have any symptoms to give them any clue that they've got it, so unless they get tested they don't know they have it.

A vaccine is designed to be similar enough to the virus that it's seeking to protect against to provide protection against it, but different enough that it should hopefully provide some protection against variants that emerge.

Side effects from vaccination could include milder forms of symptoms you would have got had you caught the virus. Though as having the vaccine is not identical to catching the virus that's not necessarily the case.

Thanks when I got the jab today it was the same Dr I saw 12 weeks ago and he asked if I had a reaction/ side effects to the first. When I said no he mentioned this was normal and made a comment that only 20-25% do which he thought was high. I am in no position to agree or disagree with the Dr's comments/ opinion as I am not medically trained and do not pretend to be so.

When I pulled out my ICV and asked for the sticker to be put in my yellow book, he did make a comment I along the lines of 'I remember you, you asked this last time'. Up until recently there was no mandated requirement to record adult vaccinations and why I maintain an up to date yellow book (ICV).

I, too, took my yellow book along to vaccinations. It is still a handy little document. And I also had absolutely no side effects from either AZ injection. Many people I have spoken to were also without any post vaccine symptoms.

Managed to get my wife who is pregnant with our 2nd her Pfizer dose last weekend.

A spare appt was found by the lovely staff and we went same day straight away, done in 15 min.

My staff and I are 80% fully vaccinated. 1 is waiting for 2nd jab. 2 are waiting for their 1st jab, appt booked.

If we were a country our borders would be open! 😜

Mr Katie had AZ #2 last Monday and happily had no post-jab symptoms. He had mild man flu from jab #1.

Happy to see some of my younger cousins/cousin-in-laws get their vaccines last week (by younger, I mean they're in their 30s). One is a primary school teacher, and worried about transmission in her work environment, esp. with what we've been seeing with the Delta clusters in Brisbane.
The other had her first bubba a few months ago, and her partner had Covid last year after they returned home from Italy. That cousin's father is elderly and compromised health-wise, and she doesn't want to risk transmitting anything to him. After seeing her partner go through Covid during their home quarantine - and he didn't even need hospitalisation - she doesn't want either of them, or their bairn fighting this disease (again). One of her FB friends posted a link to some VAERS cr*p that alleged an infant died after its mother got the Pfizer vaccine. Cousin deleted that comment, and had been upfront that she wasn't going to entertain any anti-vaxx nonsense in that thread (I saw it before it was deleted, and was curious what the heck it was about. Where the heck does this "data" come from anyway??)

As of 30 minutes ago both my wife and I are fully 5G capable after our second dose of AZ - 12 weeks gap. Both of us got the 'mild flu like' symptoms last time so it will be interesting to see if we get the same later today.

And 40 minutes after vaccination I got the myGov message to say that my vaccination record had been updated.

I was sent this today: https://www.health.gov.au/sites/def...ricarditis-after-mrna-covid-19-vaccines_1.pdf

Whilst it primarily covers Moderna, it does mention AZ.

Thought I'd detail my recent experience:
I received a first AZ jab around mid July. About a week later I was in the Alfred Hospital (Melbourne) for three days with severe shortness of breath (think drowning type gasping), atrial fibrillation, elevated heart rate (~170bpm), mild pneumonia and blood clots in my lungs and kidneys. I was given all sorts of tablets, had an angiogram, a CT scan, ECG's and a few other tests which I can't specifically recall. Eventually they zapped me three times (Cardioversion?) to get the fibrillation under control (HR went down to 90 bpm) and pumped me full of various fluids.
I went home a bit sore and sorry, and 3 days later I was back as there was an issue with another clot that was picked up on an image after I was discharged, and one of my heart valves was enlarged. Another three days later I was discharged and happy to say I'm back to near normal, but still have "general soreness" and lethargy, and taking six different tablets each day. I've never been on anything more than antibiotics in my life.

Interestingly, whilst I was in the Alfred I witnessed at least another four males around my age (54) being admitted to the Cardiology ward with similar symptoms.
I heard two of them say they'd had AZ recently when the Cardiology team were doing their daily rounds.

I'm not sure what my point is other than some may find the linked document of interest if making informed choices is your thing.

And after 24 hours no real side effects from our second AZ dose. No flu like symptoms as for the first shot. My wife has a 'tingle' near the injection site but she always has a sore arm after the yearly flu shot so I doubt that it is a particular reaction to the AZ.
