Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

I'm counting down the days now till my second jab. With the 12 week gap for AZ it seems like ages since I had my first dose. State hubs in VIC are now doing a 6 week gap, but there's not many cases in my area of MEL and the GP clinic hasn't suggested I move the appointment forward so I intend to wait the full 12 weeks.

Friend took her 17yr daughter to Olympic Park yesterday for jab#1. During her waiting period daughter looked at friend and said she didnt feel well and passed out.... which Im sure created quite a commotion with the staff.

Low blood pressure and after some rest and water, she seemed ok. Apparently the teen hadnt eaten or drunk anything that morning so Im guessing adding some anxiety about the jab didnt help the situation. Shes ok today, not even a headache.

Used to happen to me as a teen. Strong vagel response, as one more generous doctor described it. Little embarrassing but you bounce back quickly. Seemed to grow out of it in my 20s. Could have been a product of constant vaccination needles hardening me up though!

Not in Australia but DIL's sister in the UK has Covid. Fully immunised I think with Pfizer given age in thirties. A week into it and unwell but so far not severely ill.
Not a surprise with UK still doing 30k+ infections per day and almost no restrictions or even much mask wearing in crowded situations.
My UK based cousin in a similar age group also came down with it.

The vaccine only seems to be about 50% effective in stopping you catching Covid.
By its nature it helps the body react once you catch it, but it has far higher effectiveness in stopping you ending up in hospital or the morgue.

Agree. When I mentioned to my specialist that my son was in UK she asked if he’d had Covid and was surprised when I said No. this sister does have a blood clotting issue so likely more vulnerable.

How long has it been since her second jab?

Quite some time. I know son was finished by Mid July and she had her vaccination completed a couple of months earlier. So still within the the 6 months timeframe. She's still posting on Instagram but has confined herself to their attic.

So update on UK family member re symptoms. About 8 days in. Coughing, sniffling and aching have improved but fatigue still the same. Eating Krispy Kremes and hot chocolate seems to help 😂

Just reinforcing as this post was moved. These are experiences from someone vaccinated and then months later tested positive for Covid. These aren't the symptoms of the vaccination.

2nd jab yesterday, no reactions. Dr. said that he was getting people who admitted that they wouldn't have got the jab, but getting it now only because of the restrictions if you don't get it (nsw). Good policy IMHO, like passive smoking restrictions.

I'm hoping VIC puts similar incentives in place. There are already some, but the plan announced on Sunday needs to have more freedoms only for the vaxxed.

Poll
Were you Vaxxed in dominant or non dominant arm?
Anyone in the leg?
Wasn't thinking for the first one and got it in the dominant - kept me off the keyboard for 24hrs. Second time in non-dominant by choice, never felt a thing!
