Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

No-one is railing against MMR and polio vaccines, which actually do prevent infection and transmission.
There are people out there who do not vaccinate their children because of some ancient belief system.

Pro choice, anti-vax all same same.

My point is if we have gone to the trouble of producing a vaccine there should be no choice. One in, all in.

And may I remind you of the previous dengue vaccine. after 3 or 4 years they found that young children who were vaccinated for dengue were much more likely to die if they got dengue than those not vaccinated. just as well that one wasn't one in all in.

Just out of interest can you tell me the results of the human trials on the recent bivalent vaccine trials?

I'm sorry I don't get it.

Why bother with any vaccine if dopes are going to say "I don't know what's in that vaccine!".

What excuse can you possibly use for not having your kids fully vaccinated with all required vaccines? Not safe? My choice? Dangerous? Don't know what's in the vaccine?

I do realise the covid vaccines were rushed. Who knows if they got them right or got them wrong. Does anyone know where we would have been today without these rushed vaccines? I'd say significantly worse off, hospitals overflowing, significantly more deaths.

I'm glad they forced people to get vaccinated. Should have been more strict.

And by the way it's still early days. This mild virus has wreaked havoc and continuing to do so 3 years later. Let's just ignore it and move on with our useless lives.

So you are happy that young children died because they had a vaccine when those that weren't vaccinated had a very much lower risk of death.

That's a silly post.
Of course nobody is happy children died, c'mon be real.
Vaccines have such a high percentage of working, doing what they're intended to do.
On your theory children have died, we'd never be taking another vaccine in our life, cos you never know, we might die.

Nothing is for certain, well except that we all will die one day, vaccine or not.

You have taken it out of context. I had posted how young children died at greater rates if vaccinated for dengue fever when @JohnK had said there should be mandatory vaccination of children. He then replied saying the same thing again hence my comment that you quoted.

With Covid very few children have died of Covid and the vast majority of those who did had severe co morbidities. Vaccinating young healthy children with the Covid vaccines brings little benefit with the risk of the occasional severe side effect.

At the present the risk of you transmitting the virus is little different if vaccinated or not.
The new bivalent mRNA vaccine did not have a human trial before being introduced so how do we know how effective it is?
There are a couple of small trials with the first bivalent vaccine with original plus Ba1 Omicron but they concentrate on the antibody levels which do not necessarily mean better protection.

100%

I would say that anyone under the age of 60, without any health issues, shouldn't be worried about Omicron. The risk/reward with mRNA vaccination and myocarditis/pericarditis to the general population isn't worth it. Transmission isn't a consideration because Omicron is so infectious, your getting/going to transmit Omicron one way or another. Mask or no mask, makes no difference.

Right now, the media is drumming up people into hysterics with a incoming covid wave. Common sense has gone out the window, replaced by fear.

It's over five months since my last dose. I might wait till it has been six months and then have the bivalent vaccine.

I became eligible for dose 4 in July, at exactly the same time as I got COVID 🤦🏻‍♂️ so my three months are up now, and dose 3 was in January, so I’m considering the fourth. I’ve been 3xPfizer so far, first dose July 2021 (slipped through the governments age restricted net to get an appointment).

First dose was completely fine, second and third I was pretty dead for about 48 hours. Then I got covid and it felt like when I was vaccinated 2nd and 3rd times, and the symptoms lasted around the same time.

Re COVID itself, my first + (very weak on the Sunday) to negative again (the next Friday) was 5 days, so I think I got off pretty lightly. I took another test on day 2 which was a very strong positive, so my viral load was sky high for a day or so then the symptoms went. My OH didn’t catch it either and we were in close contact the entire time (both work from home).

I wouldn’t like to think what it’d have been like if I wasn’t vaccinated, maybe worse or maybe not, but I’ll never know and I’ll also never know if my OH didn’t catch it because she was vaxxed on the same schedule as me, but neither of us regret getting vaccinated.

No I'm not happy anyone dies due to any cause.

Only on AFF but it seems people here take issues with any vaccine related issues very seriously but if someone dies from a virus then it's bad luck or find any excuse to deflect the death elsewhere.

Myocarditis from vaccine let's make a huge deal about it. Myocarditis from covid oh bad luck.

You are a doctor. We have met a few times and I respect you greatly. Can you please explain to me why any child in Australia should remain unvaccinated unless it was a serious detriment to their health?

Pro choice is not a valid excuse. In fact it's a dumb excuse.

I have ensured my daughter is fully vaccinated and all her vaccines up to date. If other parents choose no to then their kids should not be able to mingle. I seriously believe in segregation. I seriously believe in rewarding people for doing the right thing. One in, all in. Simple.

I'd love to know where we would have been without polio, smallpox vaccines etc.

While I am vaxxed to the eyeballs, not all vaccines are equal! You can't compare say the Sabin oral vaccine for polio that I took as a teenager (and have happily never contracted polio unlike at least 2 people I knew who were not vaccinated and did catch it), with the Covid vaccines that prevent death but do not stop you from contracting the virus.

I had 2 x Astrazeneca, and 2 x pfizer. I spent 6 weeks in the UK Mar/May 2022 soon after the fourth jab and caught Covid (much like any past relatively mild flu). I spent another 5 weeks in UK + 1 week Germany in Aug/Sep 2022 with no further jabs and caught nothing. At 70+ with my fair share of comorbidities I am in no rush to seek any further boosters. I will need to be convinced of their efficacy before getting another covid jab.

Because healthy young children are at very little risk for serious Covid or death unlike flu which in Australia in the last 2 years has caused more deaths in healthy under 5s than Covid.
And we really do not know what the long term effects of the mRNA vaccines are. They are a new vaccine type for humans so just on 2 years experience isn't really enough time.
As well I have posted the results of a study in to the follow up of patients in the Phase 3 trials. Those who got an mRNA vaccine had a slight increase in all cause mortality whereas those who got AZ or J&J had nearly a 50% reduction in all cause mortality. That raises serious questions for me and I will not have another mRNA shot until that has been researched further.
So those results mean having an mRNA vaccine were more likely to die than those vaccinated with a different vaccine or those unvaccinated despite the fact that they were far less likely to die of covid.

@JohnK is advocating abrogation of basic human rights, somewhat treasured in places like the Ukraine…and par for the course in other places
Over time, I listen to and read lots of offensive tripe from folks with an opinion.
While I may blanch at the ignorance, equally I support their right to publicly express their perceived reality and stuff up their lives.

..oh and for lurking mods.. please read my words with care...I have not reflected directly upon any individual...;)

I think that little kids (pre adolescent) have been vaccinated for Covid not to protect them but to protect the more vulnerable. Be they aged, or infirm. With a new vaccine with no longitudinal studies. If that sits comfortably with you then you’d get them vaccinated. Otherwise, well, if it was my choice (ie I had little kids) it wouldn’t have happened.

Polio, tetanus, measles, chicken pox et al protects the individual old or young. Immunize.

Goodness!

I'll have no hesitation on getting my BiValent booster shot in the near future. Yes, and I have read the reviews.

My own experience is that these Mrna vaccines really do help. And if I become seriously ill in the future because of it, I'll have survived longer because of the vaccine.

When you're 70++ every little helps...

This was my case in point which I think everyone has missed.

There are kids who are allowed to mingle not vaccinated against measles, chicken pox etc? Why? Because parents are informed or because of some ancient belief system that does not belong in decision making process of serious diseases? No need to go there again but I almost died from chicken pox.

Note I refuse to vaccinate my daughter against covid. Part of the reason is fear but the majority was due to anti-vaxxers allowed to get away with gross negligence.

@tgh I'm not taking your comment as an attack but I don't see allowing people to make uninformed decisions and forcing them to vaccinate as a loss of basic human rights.

Loss of basic human rights is allowing people infected with any type of disease to roam around without any check.

Need I remind people that western society eradicated TB by the 80's-90's but now the threat is there again. Why? Surely not for the good of everyone else. There is treatment. There are vaccinations but we have ~1.4 mil deaths each year. Why?

Your idea of basic human rights is nowhere near my idea of basic human rights.

Hang on. What?! You’re here pushing lifetime mask requirements and across the board vaccination mandates, but you’re then saying you refuse to vaccinate your own daughter? And somehow anti-vaxers are the cause? I’m really struggling to keep up!

Please keep up. If people don't need to be vaccinated then I'm not forcing that on my daughter. It's a very simple concept.

Enough doing the right thing to protect the ignorant.
