I have to pull the trigger to buy (or not) before I go to bed tonite:confused:

Ditto - just about to submit my finance application to the Minister Of War & Finance… Based on her recent TG J experience thanks to Avianca Life Miles, I reckon I'm in with a good shot!

Just make the executive decision!
My dillema is that I only need to book flights using AA miles in early May 2014 (1 way Syd-Auh-Dub in J on EY which costs 75K AA miles). Currently, I and + 1 each have 250K US airway miles (which were bought at between 1-1.5 cents per mile) which are about to be converted to AA miles at 1:1. The question is when?

From this article below:
US Airways to Leave Star Alliance March 30, Join Oneworld March 31, Begins Integration of Frequent Flyer Accounts | Frequent Business Traveler

“It’s two complex organizations that need to be melded into one over time,” incoming CEO Doug Parker told the Associated Press. “That’s the biggest challenge by far.”

In a letter to employees, Parker said that customers will soon be able to earn and redeem rewards miles on both program. The US Airways program, Dividend Miles, will eventually be merged into American’s AAdvantage program.
Can someone put me out of my misery and TELL me whether i should buy AA miles with this current promo(s)??

The earn/redeem looks like it's already up and running, with benefits:

Where does it say (officially) that USDM and AA will be converted to 1:1? I must've missed it, if there was such an announcement.

If you are hoping that there will be a speedy amalgamation of both programs, I would be thinking otherwise.

Buy now if you need AA miles within the next few months (ie May 2014 as you mention) - that is my suggestion.

I'm trying to appease a fussy HWMBO who wants to go to HKG for NYE. Could someone please check if there is any availability using AA miles HKG-MEL in J on CX (or I guess QF provided it's A380 via SYD) for 2 pax on any flights Jan 1-3 2015 (which is about 333 days out). Not fussed as to flight times but prefer overnight.

Could you please also advise of the cost of buying the AA miles for this redemption with current promo? I have an old AA account but no miles.

Many thanks

QFF search shows 2 x J on CX163 (day flight) or CX105 (overnight flight, via ADL, direct) on 01/01/2015. Nothing on 02/01 or 03/01. Remember this is QFF - availability may be under reported. But so there.

Cost of the redemption will be (Business, All Partners award, South Pacific to Asia 2) 35k AA miles per passenger, one-way. Assuming 2 US cents per mile, that will cost USD 700 to purchase.

Yes, fine and dandy if you are flying AA or US - you can burn on one or the other. The respective partners is a different issue (e.g. oneworld partners).

I don't think the sweeping of US to AA will happen quickly. I'd put money that it'd happen this year, but when is a different thing.

Hey, if I'm wrong and we can switch points over on 1 April, I'll be happy too!

CX also showing nothing 2nd/3rd but plenty of options for 2 on the 1st.

Where does EY run first class out of Australia?

I can't look at the graphical award chart so can you tell me how many miles for F doing 2 awards?

That is good news and I'm glad I learnt something about EY.

Dale.

Surely SYD is a good start! I don't see why MEL wouldn't have at least one F service.

I think I heard that BNE is not one of the places.

A quick look suggests EY runs F out of SYD, MEL and BNE but it may depend on where you're going. I couldn't find a map so put AUH as the destination.
Where do you want to go, Dale?

Dilemma over. Just bought 60K +18K to cover this :)

I read it somewhere...I think it was in an open letter that the incoming CEO wrote...if i can find it I'll post it; maybe someone else knows exactly where it is, and can post:).

waiting for 400K dividend miles to convert....thinking of a 40K buy to help the little stash of points I have

The Miles required seem to jump around a little but a random sample in February (13th) looked like this:
827771 Miles + AUD76.02 (First Suite Saver)
970362 Miles + AUD76.02 (First Suite Freedom)

Them's a lot of Miles!

It was a transcript of an interview / press conference. Obviously, FT covered it relatively first. markis10, amongst others, has reiterated again and again that it will be a 1:1 sweep ratio when the ability is enabled.

Since it's on the record, anything different (except better conversion) would be reneging.

Where are you getting these numbers from?

MEL-LHR is 60,000 in J and 80,000 in F (each way)

The killer is the extra taxes when leaving LHR.

$$$ Cost of the current booking we have was +$293.26 to LHR and $778.99 from LHR in J.

Apologies Dale - severe case of brain fade!

How do you account for $778.99 from LHR in J for one ticket? The APD adds approximately GBP 200, so say about $400, then the UK PSC adds another GBP 80, so say $160. That's $560 - where's the other $210 or so?

mmmm 8 hours to pull the trigger on this one.

gf's account has 90k from previous bonus offer while i'm down to 45k after redeeming a SYD-HKG F trip for the 7s. thinking i should at least get mine back above 80K points so we can both have a one way SYD-LHR F trip... very surprised at availability from SYD and MEL compared to awards to USA.

to the person that bought 40 + 40 - did both bonus miles post?

I bought 40 + 40 yesterday. The 80,000 have posted but not the bonus miles as yet.

From what I've read around here, the bonus miles can take a while. Would love some input on the expected timeframe from others who've done this before.
