Just a little update, I used my AZ Gold to access BNE lounge yesterday with my Velocity FF number on my ticket & I was able to guest my wife & son (toddler) into the lounge as well.

Thanks for the update, will give mine a go in a few weeks time.

I am Velocity nothing but Club Freccia Alata (gold). Can I use my Velocity FF on my booking (to start earning towards VA status), but flash my Alitalia card at the Virgin lounge for access?

I am Velocity Silver, so no lounge access. I put VFF to get points and status credits to Velocity and show Club Freccia Alata to get myself and a guest into Virgin lounges relatively often. Last time was 4 weeks ago.
